FLORIDA - REP DR DUNN UPDATE 05/12/2020

NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

As Florida proceeds with Phase One of reopening, I want to start by saying thank you. Thank you to all of those who have returned to work. Thank you to those who are supporting our small businesses while also maintaining social distancing and healthy habits. And thank you to those essential workers who have put in long hours to care for their neighbors.

It’s because of you that I feel a stronger urge to return to D.C. to fight on your behalf. Speaker Pelosi has made the arbitrary decision not to call the House of Representatives into session during this pandemic. While the U.S. Senate is meeting to conduct business and seeking to help all of us, the Democrats in the House have abdicated their responsibilities and simply stayed home. It’s wrong and it needs to end.

Like many of my Republican colleagues, I’m ready to get back to Washington. President Trump needs our support as we seek to get our economy back on track following an unprecedented loss of jobs because of COVID-19. People are hurting and it’s simply irresponsible of Speaker Pelosi to ignore the work that Congress could be doing to help. We have thousands of people in our districts working despite the risk to assist their communities. It’s past time for Congress to join them.

Do you think it's time for Congress to get back to work?

Speaker Pelosi’s refusal to bring the House into session firmly places her and her handpicked Democratic colleagues in charge of the House’s agenda. Without debate, without a chance to fight for our constituents, Republicans are being sidelined during one of the most consequential periods in American history. Nothing good comes from backroom deals, and that’s what’s happening now. The people deserve to be represented by their Congressional member, not a small committee handpicked by Speaker Pelosi.

I’m hoping to get back to Washington, D.C. very soon. Until then, I’m working hard in the District supporting small businesses and hearing from various industries about what I can do to assist them and the people that count on them. As a reminder, my team and I are also here for you. We’ve been working diligently to answer calls and emails about trouble with federal agencies.
