On Wednesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL), and I urged the Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy to address the lack of childcare facilities for members of the 7th Special Forces Group based in Crestview, Florida. Read more here.

On Wednesday, I met with the Stand With Parkland organization to discuss legislative priorities, including the TAPS Act and EAGLES Act, as well as best practices and funding for school safety measures and behavioral threat assessment efforts. Read more here.

On Tuesday, Representative James McGovern (D-MA) and I sent a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee nominating the pro-democracy movement of Hong Kong for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize. Read more here.
On Wednesday, I met with John Anderson, President of the Premium Cigar Association, and Marvin Holthouser, owner of Harbor Cigars, to emphasize my support for the premium cigar industry and discuss my bill to exempt premium cigars from FDA regulation threatening the industry. Read more here.
On Thursday, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) and I urged Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Stephen Hahn to ensure the FDA has the necessary tools to guarantee the safety and supply of pharmaceuticals, food, and medical supplies being imported from China in light of the growing epidemic of the Wuhan coronavirus. On Tuesday, I met with Taiwan’s Vice President-elect William Lai to reiterate my strong support for the U.S.-Taiwan bilateral relationship. We discussed strengthening ties between Taipei and Washington and the importance of Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). On Friday, I joined the bipartisan Senate Climate Solutions Caucus, which brings together an equal number of Republicans and Democrats to advance bipartisan efforts to address our changing climate. Read more here.
On Friday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I led a bipartisan letter to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer to commend the inclusion of a small business chapter in the U.S. Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and request additional information regarding the chapter’s implementation.
