ENGAGE THE RIGHT 08/24/2019 HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT HR1 ? FIGHT IT!!!

Submitted by: Terry Payne

Have you heard about HR1?

Have you heard about the bill called For the People Act of 2019? This bill is referred to as HR1. According to what I have learned about this bill, the 1 after the HR means that this is the most important bill to the Democrats. On March 8, 2019 the House voted on this bill. EVERY Democrat in Congress voted for this bill. This same bill was opposed by every Republican in Congress. (234 Yeas, 193 Nays, and 5 not voting)
The bill is described as a way to “expand Americans' access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and for other purposes.” This short description sounds like a win to many Americans, but this bill also has multiple changes that would affect future elections for all Americans.

If you have not heard of the HR1 For The People Act of 2019 here are some facts about the over 500-page bill:

·         If this bill were to pass the Senate and be signed by the President, it would add $4.3 BILLION in new spending through 2029 according to the Institute for Spending Reform.

·         The bill would give American taxpayer dollars to political candidates and campaigns. Candidates would get a government match of 6-1 for every donation that is $200 or less.

·         Candidates for President and Vice President would be required to submit 10 years of tax returns. (This is due to the fact that the Democrats want President Trump’s tax returns)

·         The bill allows 16-year old’s the right to vote and sign up to register to vote.

·         The bill allows for automatic voter registration.

·         Colleges can register students to vote without asking if they are US citizens.

·         Non-citizens who are registered to vote, cannot be charged with a crime unless they “knew” they were committing a crime.

·         Voting rights are restored to convicted criminals, as long as they are not in jail on election day (if they were in jail for election fraud previously they now can vote!)

·         All states must allow early voting and polling locations must be moved within walking distance of bus stops.

·         Absentee voters will be allowed to mail in their ballot with pre-paid postage by the government.

·         Our day of election would be a national holiday.

It is evident that if the majority of Americans sat down and read everything that was included in this bill, many would object to the bill. The Constitution already guarantees American voters the right to vote as well as the right to fair elections.

Engage The Right felt that it was important for every Republican to have some knowledge about this bill. For anyone on social media who watches some of the left’s tweets and posts, they often refer to HR1 as “believing in election security,” “cleans up corruption in Washington by reducing the role of big dark money in politics,” “advances clean & fair elections, & restores ethics & integrity”, and “saving democracy.” Mitch McConnell is often the person who gets blamed for not allowing a vote to be taken in the Senate.
(202) 224-3121 is the phone number for the United States Capitol switchboard. The operator can direct you to your Senator’s office, so you can call and oppose HR1 if you choose to do so. The Democrats are using bots, emails, faxes, and mass phone calls calling for all Senators to support HR1 and encouraging McConnell to call a Senate vote when the Senate returns to D.C after the August recess.

On a positive note, Republicans are in the majority in the Senate. The likelihood that this bill would pass in the Senate and be signed into law by President Trump is minimal. If you happen to notice politicians on the left as well as supporters of HR1 talk about this bill, throw some facts out about the bill and see if they still think this bill is good for America’s “democracy”. You can be proactive now - call or email your Senators stating your opposition to the HR1 bill, find out if your Senator will be having a Town Hall and attend, or write an editorial for your local newspaper with conservative facts about HR1.

Below are two links and a video on HR1 if you would like to learn more. Although the video is directed at Representative Joe Cunningham of SC District 1, it could be applied to ANY Democratic House member, since they all VOTED in favor of this bill.
