NEWSMAX HEALTH - INTRAVENOUS CHEMOTHERAPY MAY GO THE WAY OF THE DINOSAURS

Topical “chemo spray” could eventually replace intravenous chemotherapy as an effective treatment for cancer, administered directly onto the tissue surface near a tumor site and sidestepping a wide range of adverse side effects, a new study suggests. Because chemo administered via IV travels throughout the body, it can damage healthy cells, inducing hair loss, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and anemia. South Korean researchers say they may have figured out how to counteract these effects with a topical spray encapsulating drugs in nanoparticles that can efficiently be absorbed primarily by cancer cells, lowering the risk of systemic toxicity. To get the nanoparticles to stick to the outside of the tumor cells, they bioengineered an adhesive that mimics the substance used by marine mussels to stick to wet rocks. Read More Here
