Senate to Add Obamacare Repeal to Tax Bill

As Congress works to pass tax reform by the end of the year, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced that a repeal of Obamacare’s individual health care mandate would be added to the Senate version of the tax bill. “We’re optimistic that inserting the individual mandate repeal would be helpful,” McConnell said Tuesday, speaking about getting the bill passed. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, called repealing the individual mandate a “fantastic” way to help working families. “By itself, repealing the individual mandate is good policy and good politics. It is one of the most unpopular parts of Obamacare,” Lee said in ... Read More

Jeff Sessions, DOJ Looking into Leaks, Unmasking

Rep. John Ratcliffe praised the Justice Department on Wednesday for launching investigations into those who disclose classified information. “When people disclose America’s most sensitive national security information there has to be consequences,” Mr. Ratcliffe, Texas Republican, said on Fox News. Mr. Ratcliffe was reacting to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday in which he said his department was currently looking at 27 cases of classified information leaks. This issue gained attention in the 2016 campaign when it was revealed those in the Obama ... Read More

The Military May Soon Get a Long-Needed Boost

It’s not exactly “Man Bites Dog,” but “Congress Gets Defense Spending Right” is almost as surprising a headline. For too long now, we’ve been cutting corners when it comes to the military. Years of underfunding have given us a weakened force that, despite the hard work of our brave troops, is ill-equipped to handle the missions we keep throwing at it. Think the recent spate of ship collisions is a coincidence? Hardly. They’re a red flag—a warning sign we ignore at our peril. That’s what happens when you shortchange our armed forces, and fail to ensure that they have the best ... Read More

U.S. House to Face Mandatory Sexual Harassment Training

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Tuesday that the entire U.S. House will now face mandatory training to avoid sexual harassment and discrimination, moving to address the growing national scandal over behavior ranging from the boorish to the criminal. His comments came hours after a House committee held a hearing on harassment, in which lawmakers told their own stories of being sexually harassed or assaulted. Mr. Ryan said the House will now have a policy of mandatory training for every lawmaker and every staffer. “Our goal is not only to raise awareness, but also make abundantly clear that harassment in any form ... Read More
