CHUCK MUTH'S NEWS & VIEWS 05/29/2016 ENDORSEMENTS

SPECIAL NEVADA PRIMARY ELECTION EDITION

Readers and subscribers from outside Nevada can stop reading now and get back to your super family Sunday fun day activities, because this is a special Nevada-focused election edition of Muth’s Truths since “early voting” here officially began yesterday.

Cheers.

TARK, TAX HIKE MIKE AND THE NRA

Having rammed through the largest tax hike in Nevada history despite signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, RINO State Sen. Tax Hike Mike Roberson sure as shootin’ can’t run for the open 3rd congressional district seat against conservative challenger Danny Tarkanian, a Tax Pledge signer who would actually keep his word, on the tax issue in the GOP primary.

So instead, he’s been attacking Tark on the gun issue, another potent issue among Republican primary voters.  But as we’ve all learned the hard way, Roberson will outright lie about any issue.

For example, he’s been running Facebook ads like the ones below saying Tarkanian is “F” rated by the National Rifle Association (NRA)...

He also tweeted on May 14th: “My opponent has an ‘F’ Rating from the NRA.”

But like just about everything else that comes out of Tax Hike Mike’s mouth, those claims can now be exposed as yet another outright LIE.

But don’t take my word for it.  Here’s the actual 2016 National Rifle Association/Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) ratings that were just released on Friday

a

The “Q” simply means the individual is not an incumbent with a voting record and their rating was derived from their answers to the NRA’s candidate questionnaire.

In addition, here’s what Danny wrote about this issue on his campaign website…

“I believe that the Second Amendment protects our God-given right to armed self-defense and oppose all efforts to restrict this fundamental, individual right. I oppose any and all efforts to register guns and their owners, and I oppose any and all efforts to restrict the sale or ownership of guns by law-abiding citizens.”

So there you have it…

Any God-fearing, Bible-thumping, gun-toting conservative who may have been spooked by Roberson’s misleading political attacks on the Second Amendment issue should now feel 100% secure in placing their trust in Danny Tarkanian to protect their gun rights.

TWO THUMBS UP FOR JUDGE JOHNSON

In the race for Clark County District Judge, Department 20, our nod goes enthusiastically for the retention of Judge Eric Johnson.  Here’s why…

No school reform effort is as important or effective as giving low- and middle-income parents both the right and the means to exercise the same kind of private school choice that wealthy families enjoy.

As such, no piece of legislation was of more importance to Nevada’s kids last year than the establishment of the universal Education Savings Account (ESA) voucher program.

The program came under immediate legal attack by the ACLU and the teachers unions.  But Judge Johnson stood tall, refused to buckle under the pressure and recenly ruled in favor of the ESA program.  A ruling in the other direction could have doomed the futures of yet another generation of Nevada’s children.

Being the competent and responsible jurist he is, I know Judge Johnson ruled on the merits of the case and the arguments presented by both sides, not ideology or politics.

Still, it took a lot of backbone to make the correct call in the face of such formidable political opposition from the religion-hating ACLU and the educrats who run and mismanage our current failure factories.

Retain Judge Johnson.

OTHER ENDORSEMENTS

University Regent: District 6 – Michael Wixom.  He’s my neighbor and a good, conservative Republican.  Plus, he somehow pulls off the bow-tie look!

University Regent: District 7 – Dan Rego.  Dan’s been the head of the Nevada Republican Liberty Caucus – an organization of libertarian-leaning Republicans - for several years.  When it comes to tax-and-spend issues, this constitutional conservative will be on our side.  His head is definitely in the “right” place.

University Regent: District 13:  Jim Ratigan.  Ratigan’s opponent, John Moran III, is part of Nevada’s political establishment elite.  He’s raised over $300,000(!) for an office that pays less than $3,000 a year.  This office is clearly just a stepping stone for Moran.

State Board of Education, District 1: “Doc” Louk.  One of the candidates for this seat is Tim Hughes, a teacher who supports Common Core.  Louk opposes and wants to scrap it.

Louk also says he supports breaking up the Clark County school district into 356 independents school districts so that parents, teachers and community members make all the decisions.  The third candidate in the race, Robert Blakely, opposes breaking up the school district.

This one’s a no-brainer.

State Board of Education, District 3:  Barry Herr.  Barry’s a longtime, conservative GOP grassroots activist.  The incumbent, Felecia Ortiz, was appointed to the seat by RINO Gov. Brian Sandoval and supports Common Core.  ‘Nuff said.

Las Vegas Justice Court, Department 3 – Harmony Letizia.  I just received a mailer from Letizia opponent, Janiece Marshall.  In it, she boasts of being endorsed by the SEIU, the AFL-CIO, the Culinary Union, the Carpenters Union, the Laborers Union and more.  That’s all I need to know.

Las Vegas Justice Court, Department 14 – JoAnne Chelini.   The incumbent, Conrad Hafen, is a bully who just had a defense attorney slapped in handcuffs for making an argument on behalf of her client to "teach her a lesson."

SOME DEMOCRAT PRIMARY ENDORSEMENTS

Understand, these are picks in Democrat primary races – usually the lesser of two or more evils.  These are not my choices for the general election.  With that being said…

For U.S. Senate, let’s go with Bobby Mahendra.

Unlike Harry Reid’s anointed candidate, Catherine Cortez-Masto-Reid, Mahendra works in the private sector, takes no money from special interest groups, and told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “I think people want the government to live on less.”

I think he’s right.

In Congressional District 3, Reid’s anointed candidate is Jacky Rosen.  So she’s out.

On the other hand, Reid reportedly told another Democrat candidate in the race, Jesse Sbaih, not to run because he’s a Muslim.  He’s definitely an anti-Reid candidate.  That’s good enough for me.  Go Jesse, go!

In Congressional District 4, we urge a vote for Lucy Flores.  Why?

Because I think the former gang-banger is the liberal, race-hustling, tax-hiking, open-borders candidate that incumbent Republican Rep. Cresent Hardy would have the best chance of beating in November, that's why.

For Clark County Commission, District B:  Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

I don’t agree on that many issues with MK, but she’s always been open to talking to me about them.  And you won’t find a harder, more dedicated worker when it comes to constituent services.  As Democrats go, she ain’t half-bad.

In State Senate District 4, we’re going with Harvey Munford.

Munford’s voting record in the Legislature has clearly shown he’s far more of a moderate, independent Democrat than his opponent, Kelvin Atkinson – one of the worst “Black Lives Matter” race-hustlers in the state.  Go Harvey, go!

In State Senate District 5, I’m going with Nicholas Lash.

He’s a stay-at-home dad and fire-breathing Bernie Sanders supporter who refuses to take campaign donations in his challenge to incumbent Joyce Woodhouse.  He’d be toast in the general election.  Go Nick, go!

In State Senate District 7, David Parks.  I don’t often agree with Sen. Parks, but our disagreements are always done in an agreeable fashion.

Assembly District 15:  Lou Toomin.  A former legislator and former Republican, the “Toominator” opposed the $1.4 billion tax hike.  The incumbent Democrat legislator voted for it with a vengeance.  Go Lou, go!

Assembly District 18:  Richard Carillo.  He’s a rare pro-gun Democrat.

Assembly District 20:  Darren Welsh.  He’s running against liberal incumbent Ellen Spiegel.  His first race was for a fifth-grade advisory committee post and his platform was “running Kool-Aid through water fountains.”  What’s not to like?  Go Darren, go!

Assembly District 21:  Ben Nakhaima.  He’s an unemployed student whose campaign platform includes “better school lunches.”   What conservative wouldn’t want to run against THAT in the general election?!!  Go Ben, go!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Like Pig-Pen from the Peanuts comic strip dragging around a cloud of grime and dust wherever he goes, Mrs. Clinton remains enveloped in an aura of dirt and scandal.” – Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial, 5/27/16
