MUTH’S TRUTHS

From the Federal Department of Making a Bad Situation Worse comes a proposal for U.S. taxpayers to bail out fiscally irresponsible Puerto Rico from its self-inflicted $72 billion debt crisis.

Make no mistake: If we bail out Puerto Rico now by allowing it to blow off debt that is legitimately owed to creditors through bankruptcy protection, every fiscally irresponsible state in the union will one day be demanding a similar bailout in the future.

As Salim Furth of the Heritage Foundation wrote recently in the Wall Street Journal, “Granting Puerto Rico access to the chapter 9 bankruptcy regulations would short-circuit possibilities for reform. Rather than giving Puerto Rico a path to growth, it could keep in place the bureaucrats who” got them into this mess in the first place.

Contact your Congressman this morning and not only urge a “NO” vote on bailing out Puerto Rico, but a RECORDED vote so we know exactly where every one of our elected officials stands on this issue.

Call (202) 224-3121 and simply ask to be connected to your congressman’s office.

Cheers.

P.S.  Nevada Rep. Cresent Hardy is a member of the Natural Resources Committee which is scheduled to hear this bill this week.  We urge him to vote “No.”
