THE GREAT DEBATE

Don’t forget, Monday morning Alan Stock and I will be hosting a debate between the candidates running for state Treasurer, Democrat Kim Wallin and Republican Dan Schwartz.  Please join us in the live studio audience.  We’ll have donuts!

The debate will be held at the Red Rock Resort out on West Charleston and I-215 and will run from 7:30 – 8:30 am.  It will be simulcast on KDWN 720 AM.  If you don’t live in the Las Vegas area, you can listen in live via streaming audio by clicking here: http://kdwn.com/streamer/

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

--> The Girl Scouts are reportedly suffering a severe drop in membership for the second year in a row.  Not surprising.  The organization has become increasingly politically correct, is nowhere near as much fun as the Boy Scouts for active girls who outgrew their dolls years ago, and insists on forcing the kids (actually, their parents) to serve as hucksters for the cookie industry.

--> The Stupidity Virus – more contagious than Ebola could ever hope to be - has struck yet another public school!  According to Gawker.com…

“A Mobile, Ala., mom says school officials forced her daughter to sign a contract promising not to commit suicide or harm others after the kindergartner ‘drew something that resembled a gun,’ then pointed a crayon at another kid and said ‘pew, pew!’"

The dumbass school officials went even further, suggesting the kid’s mom take the kid to see a psychiatrist.  The kids mom told ‘em to pound sand.  Morons.

--> The Washington Post is reporting that as we enter the final weeks of Campaign 2014, “some wild cards are on the table in states where the GOP had been expecting easy victories on its way to gaining six seats for control of the Senate.”

Apparently the Post missed the memo about “Republicans never blowing an opportunity to blow an opportunity.”

--> That said, recent polling shows that Republicans in all three competitive seats for the NEVADA state Senate this year are leading.  The candidates are flush with cash and are taking NO CHANCES of making a verbal gaffe by ducking media interviews and debates with their opponents.

I mean, there’s no way for Senate Minority Leader Moderate Mike Roberson to blow this opportunity, right?

HELP HENDERSON TEACHER WIN $100,000 FOR HER SCHOOL!

In case you missed my column on this last March, C.T. Sewell Elementary School in Henderson is everything you’d want a government school to be.  High academic standards, strict discipline, teachers who care about the students more than the teachers union, and a principal and staff who don’t whine about not having enough money and instead go out and raise more themselves.

Well, one of the amazing teachers there, Brenda Moynihan, entered the “Dream Big Teacher Challenge” contest sponsored by Farmers Insurance Group and has advanced to the final round in the Southwest Region.

If she wins, C.T. Sewell will receive a whopping $100,000 grant which will be used to “incorporate technology into Sewell’s classrooms and learning center so the school’s students - who rarely have access to computers or tablets at home - can more readily meet today’s academic expectations.”

Moynihan made it to the Final Three in the Southwest region.  She’s up against one teacher from California and another from Arizona. The winner will be determined by how many votes each teacher gets from now until November 30…and you can vote once a day EVERY day.

Let’s help bring this home for Ms. Moynihan and the kids at C.T. Sewell Elementary!  I’m including the link below…and will include it in each newsletter from now until the contest ends.  All you’ll have to do is click on the link, vote for Ms. Moynihan, confirm your vote by clicking on the link in the email you’ll receive each day, and…well, that’s it.  That’s all there is to it.

NEVADA MARKETING SUMMIT

With the election season (thankfully) almost over, it’s time for many of us to get back to what’s REALLY important: running our businesses and trying to make enough money to pay all the taxes that Gov. Brian Sandoval and Sen. Moderate Mike Roberson are going to raise next year.

So starting this week - on Tuesday, October 14 - the Nevada Marketing Association will begin sponsoring a decidedly NON-POLITICAL monthly luncheon, hosted by George Harris, proprietor of Mundo: A Culinary Haute Spot.

The monthly Nevada Marketing Summit focuses on ways for small businesses and entrepreneurs to get more customers, sell more products or services, and earn more profits.  This month’s topic: “How to Write a Book in 90 Minutes.”  In the presentation, you’ll learn…

  • Why every business owner and entrepreneur should author a book
  • Why every business owner and entrepreneur CAN author a book
  • How to write your book in 90 minutes without actually “writing” it
  • “Insider” tips on length, style, size, layout, fonts, color, etc.
  • The important first “chapter” that almost everyone forgets to include
  • The one-stop, inexpensive, hassle-free way to get your book self-published without having to purchase thousands at a time
  • Where to get help laying out the book and designing the cover that won’t cost you a fortune (no they’re not in the U.S.)

There’s no registration fee this month.  Just pay for your own lunch.  For more information and/or to RSVP, click here

If you can’t make it this month but want to be put on the email list to be reminded of future meetings, just enter your name and email address on the same page.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“In Assembly District 41, Republican Vicki Dooling is looking to unseat Democrat Paul Aizley.  Mr. Aizley is hostile to business.  He also chaired a committee that quashed the efforts of the state to gain more control over federal land.  Ms. Dooling understands the economic importance of putting more federal land under state and local control, then get that land into private-sector hands and onto the property tax rolls.” – Las Vegas Review-Journal in endorsing Dooling in the AD 41 race, 10/11/14
