RedState Briefing 10/10/2014

The White House Dogs

In “Silver Blaze,” a short story about Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a prized race horse went missing the night before a major race. Holmes, investigating the disappearance and the related death of the horse’s trainer, refers “o the curious incident of the dog in the night-time.” The curious incident was that the dog did not bark. The dog at the stables made no sound as the thief stole the horse because the dog knew the thief.

The Obama Administration has not barked in these cases. Internal Revenue Service emails from employees under investigation by Congress have been deleted. The Obama Administration’s best guess is that there was just an unfortunate coincidence of timing with an obligatory reference to “partisan witch hunts.” The same holds for the EPA and now the SEC.

The Obama Administration has expressed little concern, mostly taking the opportunity to blame Republicans. Government data has been deleted and no one in the White House seems concerned. The dog is not barking.

The White House dog is barking, however, at two new scandals.

The Beauty of the White House Prostitution Scandal

There are so many hilarious factoids in the Washington Post report about Jonathan Dach, the White House, and the prostitution.

There’s the bit about Dach using his Hilton Honors membership status to avoid paying an overnight fee for his guest.

Then there’s Dach’s business card. Of course he works on “women’s rights.”

But the funniest and most beautiful part of it all is that the twenty and thirty-something White House aides and former aides in full defense are running with “Why would anybody cover this up?”

Greg Orman is an Empty Democrat Suit

Obviously, we are not huge fans of Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) around here. His weaknesses, which are being exposed in the general, are exactly the reason most conservatives supported Milton Wolf in the primary. But alleged independent Greg Orman has really and truly exposed himself as the worse option in Kansas due to his serial vapidity and dishonesty. This piece lays out the case that the press is actively campaigning for Orman by refusing to ask him difficult questions. That’s a fair criticism except that the main problem with Orman is that he refuses to give the press access to him at all. As CNN’s Dana Bash noted today, Orman has ducked the press with all the enthusiasm of a guy trying to sneak into a courthouse for a criminal trial

Cory Gardner Out Raised Mark Udall in Third Quarter

After a debate in which the moderator from the Denver Post called Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO) “Mark Uterus“, a Fox News Poll with Rep. Cory Gardner (R-CO) in the lead by 6 points, and the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average showing Gardner with a 1.3% lead, the last thing that the Udall campaign wanted to deal with today is the news that Cory Gardner had out-raised the incumbent Democrat in the third quarter.

Religion: a looming mental health crisis

Contrary to what some would have us believe, there is an ongoing war against religion in general and Christianity in particular underway in our country. For years we have seen the surface action. Under the guise of a twisted and corrupted interpretation of the First Amendment, Christianity has gradually been forced from the public square. Christmas displays have been forced from public areas — we’ve seen the Mass of Christ reduced to “Happy Holidays. Churches have been attacked for instructing their congregations on the importance of voting their faith. Prayers at sporting events are suppressed. This strategy of attacking the public trappings of religious faith is merely a prerequisite to attacking the core of the faith as that faith increasingly becomes a focal point of resistance to popular culture, particularly the mainstreaming of sexual perversion and the official degradation of marriage.
