Jonathan Alter at The Daily Beast has an idea that will infuse the president's "economic patriotism" rhetoric with some bite: Compel companies to take "loyalty oaths" to prove their patriotism. You may find this suggestion a little creepy, maybe even a little fascistic; but Alter says that "it's time for red-blooded Americans to take matters into our own hands."

One newscaster's 'terrorist' is another newscaster's 'fighter'

A media watchdog says the left-wing media continues to pursue a course of moral equivalency when it comes to the conflict between Israel and Islamic terrorists. Since 1997, Hamas has been classified as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government. According to a new study, the big three networks were more likely to call them "militants," "fighters" or even "soldiers" during the most recent war in Gaza.

Target customers can prove the cost of attacking marriage

Target's decision to openly support homosexual "marriage" could be costly for the company. But that depends on the people who shop there. "It is just poor business," he says. "Target, just like other corporations across the country, should at least remain neutral in this ongoing culture war. And at best, they should be endorsing the age old institution of natural marriage, which is the cornerstone to any healthy society."

Hamas resumes firing rockets as cease-fire ends
With the 72-hour cease-fire drawing to an end at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Hamas renewed its rocket fire on Israel after declaring in Cairo that it will not agree to extend the Egyptian-mediated ceasefire. At exactly 8:00 a.m., three rockets were fired at the city and surrounding areas.
Iraqi and Kurdish officials welcome US airdrops
Baghdad and Iraqi Kurdish officials welcomed President Barack Obama's decision to authorize U.S. airstrikes if necessary and airdrop humanitarian aid into northern Iraq to counter advancing Sunni militants and the threat they pose to Americans as well as Iraqi civilians.
25 pct of households 'just getting by'
A quarter of U.S. households say they're "just getting by" financially, a survey by the Federal Reserve shows. The Fed issued the first-time report Thursday, describing it as a snapshot of how Americans perceive their financial and economic well-being.
