SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 06/04/2014

WARNING
A Republican So Bad Even Ronald Reagan Would Break the 11th Commandment!

“Senate Minority Leader Michael Roberson, R-Las Vegas, was rated
the worst senator…” – Las Vegas Review-Journal, 6/9/13
_________________________________________________

Dear Fellow Republican,

Since the media in this town doesn’t exactly do a great job of covering local politics in races other than Governor and Congress, what you are about to read might shock you.

Indeed, you might find it hard – impossible, even - to believe.

But first, this is NOT a fundraising letter.  So put your checkbook away.

In fact, the only purpose of this letter is to warn you about a very dishonest and deceptive Republican – YOUR Nevada state senator, Michael Roberson (Senate District 20) – before you go to the polls (if you haven’t gone already).

I can assure you that every word is true.  But don’t take my word for it.  You can very easily verify everything I’m about to tell you.  Now, here’s the troubling story…

Michael Roberson ran to be your state senator for the first time in 2010.  He ran as a card-carrying, fire-breathing, limited-government conservative Republican.  See for yourself by visiting www.ModerateMike.com.

Indeed, he not only signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge promising you that he would “oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes,” but he symbolically signed it on April 15th – Tax Day.

At a TEA PARTY RALLY!

Republicans in District 20 believed him.  Trusted him.  Supported him.  Elected him.  But don’t feel badly; he fooled me, too…and I’ve been actively involved in politics for over 20 years!

Anyway, once he got into office, “Conservative Mike” Roberson horrifically transformed into “Moderate Mike” Roberson…

  • He voted to extend the $620 million worth of “temporary” tax hikes from 2009 that were supposed to expire last year…including the sales tax you pay and your vehicle registration fees.
  •  He voted to not only raise your gas tax, but put the hikes on auto-pilot so your gas tax will jump every year with inflation!
  •  He proposed and fought for a new $600 million tax on the state’s mining industry – an industry that all but keeps many of our rural communities from being subsidized by Clark County taxpayers.
  •  He voted not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES to implement ObamaCare here in Nevada, including the disastrous Nevada “ObamaCare” exchange.
  •   He voted to expand Medicaid – a fateful decision that will inevitably mean even higher taxes for you and me down the road.
  •   He voted to give driver’s licenses to persons who are in this country illegally!
  •   He sponsored a bill to use your tax dollars to teach English to children whose parents are in our country illegally.
  •  He refused to co-sponsor a “campus carry” bill that would allow young women with concealed carry permits to protect themselves from being raped, assaulted or murdered on our college campuses.
  •   And the list goes on and on and on…

A proven record of failure!

Remember how Ronald Reagan said that someone who agrees with you 80% of the time is an ally, not an enemy.  Well, wait ‘til you see “Moderate Mike’s” record!

But before I share with you the senator’s ratings from three well-established conservative organizations, you should know that all three ratings are based SOLELY on the senator’s voting record.  You don’t get points for talking like a conservative but voting like a Democrat.

American Conservative Union:              47.00%
Nevada Policy Research Institute:      44.80%
Citizen Outreach:                                      35.85%

You thought I was kidding when I told you how bad his voting record was, didn’t you?

It truly is unbelievable that that a Republican claiming to be a conservative voted like a conservative Republican LESS THAN half the time, let alone 80 percent!

And then there’s his one-man “War on Women”!

In 2012, after longtime Senate Minority Leader Bill Raggio retired, Roberson seized control of the Republican Senate Caucus and kicked Sen. Barbara Cegavske – the senior Republican in the caucus and only Republican woman – out of her leadership position and off the powerful Finance Committee…and put himself on it!

            There’s more…

The state Senate is currently split 11 Democrats/10 Republicans.  And there are two seats in play in Clark County that could give Republicans the majority next year if they win both of them.  However…

Roberson hand-picked his own two candidates – both inexperienced, unaccomplished moderates who did as Roberson instructed and refused to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge that he, himself, signed in 2010 – over two far better qualified conservative candidates … including one sitting state assemblyman!

There’s good news, however…

Bad Republicans like Michael Roberson are the reason for primaries.  In fact, as you’ll recall Ronald Reagan himself challenged a moderate incumbent Republican in the 1976 GOP presidential primary.

Fortunately, we have a very Reaganesque conservative, Carl Bunce, who has stepped forward to challenge Sen. Roberson in this Republican primary.  If you’re not familiar with Mr. Bunce, let me give you a little background…

  • He’s a member of the Nevada Republican Central Committee
  • He’s a former Precinct Director and Vice Chairman for the Clark County Republican Party.
  • He was a Republican candidate for Congress in 2008
  • He was the State Chairman of a presidential campaign in 2012
  • He was named Citizen Outreach’s “Conservative of the Year” for 2014
  • He’s signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge…and swears that, unlike Sen. Roberson, he’ll honor his promise to you.

So you have a legitimate viable, credible, believable conservative alternative to a man who betrayed you and me and everyone else who helped elect him four years ago.

For all of your Star Trek fans out there, you’ll remember this great line from Chief Engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott: “Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.”

Please, don’t be fooled by Michael Roberson again!

Conservatively yours,

Chuck Muth

P.S.  I guess I should share with you by “bona fides” even though this letter isn’t about me.  Still, it might help you trust what I’ve written if you know a little about me…

I’m a former Clark County Republican Party chairman.  I’m a former Nevada Republican Party executive director.  I was once the National Chairman for the Republican Liberty Caucus.  And I’m also a former executive director of the American Conservative Union.

In addition, I’m Nevada’s #1 conservative blogger (www.MuthsTruths.com), sponsor of the annual Conservative Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, publisher of a conservative online “newspaper” (Nevada News & Views), author of a book about the 2004 presidential campaign (“Ketchup with Your Crow, Mr. Moore?”), and a weekly columnist published in a dozen Nevada newspapers.

I’m also president of a conservative grassroots advocacy organization called Citizen Outreach which is heading up the Mount Reagan Project – an effort to name a peak on the top of Frenchman Mountain just east of Las Vegas after our 40th president (www.MountReaganProject.com).

Oh, I’m also married with three children, two dogs, a cat, a bunny rabbit, a guinea pig, a horned lizard, three parakeets, two desert tortoises, three aquariums and two chinchillas. But please don’t tell the government or some bureaucrat pencil-pusher is liable to raid our home and force me to get a zoo license!
