There are two victims after every
abortion: the baby and the mother. Liberty Counsel is unreservedly
pro-life and pro-women. The two are not opposed as those on the left
would have us believe.

Long before modern medicine gave physicians a window into the womb and even before the process of conception, gestation, and birth were fully understood, society recognized that preborn children were not merely lumps of tissue that could be discarded with impunity.
The Hippocratic Oath, credited to Greek physician Hippocrates, specifically prohibited physicians from inducing abortion. One translation reads: “I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion.” Another translation reads: “I will not give a woman an abortive remedy.” Thus, the medical profession was founded upon the recognition of, and respect for, the humanity of children in the womb.
+ + Roe v. Wade: The Supreme Court ruling was wrong in 1973 – and it’s still wrong today.
The assertion in Roe v. Wade’s majority opinion was that “viability" (the ability of a fetus to live outside the womb) is usually placed at about seven months (28 weeks). Today, the scientific claim is that viability usually occurs at 24 weeks, and in some miraculous cases even earlier because of extraordinary medical advancements.
We also know that, by twenty weeks
gestation, an unborn child has pain receptors all over his or her body
and reacts to external stimuli by recoiling and emitting stress
hormones. At twenty weeks, mothers are encouraged to speak and sing to
her child in the womb as the baby can recognize the voice of the mother.
+ + Liberty Counsel's state-by-state legal initiatives are designed to make Roe v. Wade irrelevent. Arkansas is next.
The Arkansas Human Heartbeat Protection Act would have banned most abortions at or after 12 weeks of pregnancy, if a fetal heartbeat could be detected by standard ultrasound.
In Edwards v. Beck, a lower district court concluded that parts of the Arkansas Human Heartbeat Protection Act were unconstitutional, solely upon the “viability” standard articulated 40 years ago in Roe v. Wade, which was deemed to be a medical standard.
However, as medical advances have
provided greater information about the developing child, the Supreme
Court’s viability standards should be abandoned to come in line with
science!
In a highly detailed amicus brief, Liberty Counsel told the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals that abortion viability standards should be revisited in light of modern advancements in medicine and understanding of children in the womb.

Three generations of Americans have witnessed decisions by the United States Supreme Court which explicitly degrade fellow human beings to something less in law than "persons in the whole sense." Abortion is not only an act of murder against the preborn child, it also destroys the lives of the very women pro-abortion advocates claim to be protecting.
Liberty Counsel’s brief cites the findings of the South Dakota Task Force Report on Abortion, which discovered that “women whose first pregnancies ended in abortion were 65% more likely to score in the ‘high risk’ range for clinical depression, compared to women whose first pregnancy resulted in a live birth.” The study found that women with a prior abortion experienced a 61% increased risk of mood disorders, 61% increased risk of social phobia, and 59% increase in suicide.
In the brief, Liberty Counsel
presents the compelling testimony of a number of women who were deceived
about abortion and decided to abort their unborn child. These women
suffered tremendous emotional strain, anxiety, depression, and suicidal
ideation.
The narratives from these women and similar stories across the country make it clear: When viewed in the context of history, it is apparent that Roe v. Wade is judicial aberration of the Constitution that inflicts significant damage to American jurisprudence and, in the process, irreparably harms untold numbers of human beings.
