RedState Briefing 03/28/2014

Morning Briefing
For March 28, 2014

Darren Aronofsky’s Noah
I don’t get all the claims of radical environmentalism in Noah. I saw it last night. I did not draw out of it the environmentalism. In the movie, Noah took the position that all mankind had corrupted the earth with sin and God intended to wipe them all out. Noah presumed God would wipe him and his family out too once all the animals were saved. Sure, Noah was a vegetarian and the bad guys are meat eaters who do to the earth what Saruman did, but I don’t really see the whacked out radical environmentalism. It’s more thematic of man’s sin polluting everything.

The film is a remarkable display of special effects. It is also one of the funniest comedies I have seen in a very long time. Aronofsky deserves a great deal of praise for turning a serious subject into a non-stop laugh fest of techno-electro music, orchestral scores, blasting special effects, and even rock monsters.

Therein lies my chief problem with the movie. The advertisement campaign tried to ease Christians’ nerves that all would be well, artistic license was taken, but the movie would be faithful to the story. If they hadn’t tried to con Christians into the movie, I wouldn’t have a problem. It was a pretty awesome sci-fi spectacle complete with Ent like rock monsters, a super powered Methuselah, glow in the dark space alien Adam and Eve, and Hermione Granger. “God” is never mentioned. He is referred to throughout as the “Creator”. I get that a director has to fill a two hour movie based off of a couple of chapters in the Bible, but holy cow!  Just let me explain . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?

Ebony News Editor Jamilah Lemieux Has No Time For ‘White’ People Like Raffi Williams
This morning a news editor from Ebony decided to show her ignorance and racism to the world. In a series of tweets Jamilah Lemieux, the News and Lifestyle Editor for Ebony Magazine,  called Dr. Ben Carson insane for his beliefs on race, politics, and “anything else other than his medical work.” Her objections appear to be that Carson is conservative to some extent and therefore any ideas he may have on race are forever tainted. Indeed, even his own blackness should be questioned.

While Jamilah was venting her spleen on twitter, some conservatives jumped in to defend Dr. Carson and push back against the Ebony Editor. One such conservative was Raffi Williams, the Deputy Press Secretary of the GOP and the son of Fox News contributor Juan Williams. . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?

House Leadership Makes Another End-Run Around Conservatives
Once again, House GOP leaders have shown why it is important for us to elect enough stalwarts to replace the entire leadership team.

Every Republican complains about spending.  One establishment Republican is even running an ad promising to “castrate” D.C. spending.   Yet few of them are committed to blocking a new spending increase, much less roll back existing programs.  Today, House leaders brought a bill to the floor that will increase spending.  They didn’t have enough votes to pass it, so they decided to ram it through by voice vote. . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?

Yes, the government can run out of money
Our children will grow to hate us if we don’t kill this idiotic talking point stone dead.

The argument, in essence, is that since government can print as many dollar bills as it pleases (or conjure them out of the electronic ether) Uncle Sam’s fortune is limitless, so there’s no reason to worry about public debt.  Maybe we’ll have to think about slowing down the debt express at some point in the distant future, but for now, just relax and fall asleep to the comforting hum of those Treasury printing presses!  . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?

Openly Gay Speaker of Rhode Island House Resigns After FBI Raid
Gordon D. Fox, the out-n-proud gay (NTTAWWT) Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, who spearheaded the drive, so to speak, to make homosexual marriage legal in Rhode Island has resigned. He resignation followed an FBI raid in which most, if not all, of his stuff was boxed up and taken away.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?

Outstanding New Video From Ted Cruz: Repeal? Yes We Can!

The Georgia Life Alliance
We had hoped to sit back and make it through this weekend, but opponents are attacking us as “the establishment” trying to weaken the pro-life cause. In fact, in an email from a reporter, I was asked about us having a less hard line position than the other organization.

I’m talking about the Georgia Life Alliance, of which I am a part and will be on the board. This weekend we are asking National Right to Life to affiliate with us, which would mean ending their relationship with Georgia Right to Life (“GRTL”).  . . . please click here for the rest of the post ?
