After five years in office, President Obama still doesn’t have an answer for one of the biggest questions facing middle-class families: where are the jobs?
What’s more, instead of coming up with an answer, his priority is
unemployment and making it easier to live without a job. As Speaker
Boehner has said many times, in the House, “the people’s priorities are
our priorities,” and nowhere is that focus clearer than on jobs:
THE HOUSE
- “John Boehner and GOP plan to focus on jobs” (Washington Examiner)
- “House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) underscored that Friday when he said Republicans would rather focus on employment than unemployment.” (Huffington Post)
- “Boehner stated that House Republicans would continue to focus on creating jobs for Americans in 2014...” (Free Beacon)
- “Boehner and his leadership … repeatedly reminded reporters … that the House has passed dozens of proposals to spur economic growth…” (The Washington Post)
- “This week, prominent House Republicans -- from Majority
Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., to Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan,
R-Wis. -- have made pitches to help Americans rely less on the government and more on a healthy economy.” (U.S. News & World Report)
- “Republicans, meanwhile, responded to Friday’s jobs report by arguing that the government should be facilitating more job creation -- not more government assistance.” (CBS News)
WHITE HOUSE & SENATE DEMOCRATS
- “After a tense 2013, President Obama focuses now on extending unemployment benefits…” (NBC News)
- “Obama: Renewing Benefits for Long-Term Unemployed Is Priority” (TIME)
- “Reid placed the extension of unemployment benefits at the top of the Senate’s to-do list” (ABC News)
- “…the White House and its allies launch a fresh weeklong effort to spotlight…long-term unemployment benefits.” (POLITICO)
- “Reid: Let’s not just extend unemployment insurance. Let’s expand it.” (The Washington Post)
Speaker Boehner and House
GOP leaders will talk more about their focus on jobs and employment at a
press conference this morning, which will air on speaker.gov/live at approx. 10 a.m. ET.
