CALL CONGRESS - DEMAND OFFSETS

Extending Federal Unemployment Benefits

Conservatives,
Harry Reid and his liberal colleagues in the Senate are pushing for a costly three-month extension of expanded unemployment benefits, which will harm both the economy and the very unemployed individuals it is designed to assist. Tonight, the Senate will cast a crucial procedural vote on a plan to keep expanded unemployment insurance benefits at 73 weeks.
Studies have shown extending unemployment compensation for an excessive period of time reduces the likelihood that the unemployed will find new work. When unemployed individuals remain jobless, their skills depreciate, further reducing their chances of finding new work.
If this liberal bill becomes law–adding 47 weeks of unemployment benefits to the current 26 weeks–you, the American taxpayer, will be left to pick up the $6.6 billion tab. And make no mistake, they'll be back for more in another three months.
Thanks for making the call.
Sincerely,
Russ Vought
