Morning Briefing
For August 26, 2013
1. Republican Leaders and Their Changing Stories
Back in
January, as Republicans geared up for a fight on the debt ceiling, House
Republican Leaders assured their constituents that a continuing
resolution was the way to fight Obamacare.
Said one Republican adviser:
“The debt
ceiling is a terrible place to have the fight when you have the
sequester and the continuing resolution…. There is so much
misinformation about the debt ceiling, the word ‘default’ keeps getting
thrown around. Why go for a big fight? Better to take a small bite of
the apple here knowing that you will get a few more whacks at it down
the road.”
At the
time, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) penned an op-ed in which he wrote,
“It may be necessary to partially shut down the government in order to
secure the long-term fiscal well being of our country.”
Former
Speaker Newt Gingrich went on CBS to advise Republicans that their fight
with Barack Obama should be during a continuing resolution fight, not a
debt ceiling fight.
Keith
Hennessey, whose opinion is highly regarded on Capitol Hill, wrote that
the GOP should, “Take whatever big spending cuts you want and make them
conditions of extending the Continuing Resolution. Threaten to shut down
the government rather than to make the government risk not paying its
bills on time.”
The
Politico reported that John Boehner would never allow a default to
happen and, consequently, would raise the debt ceiling. In fact, the
Politico report last January suggested the GOP would make its stand on
the continuing resolution.
That was
all in January of 2013. The House Republicans decided to pass a clean
debt ceiling and gamble on sequestration cuts. When March rolled around,
the GOP killed a measure that would have defunded Obamacare in the
March 2013 continuing resolution.
They chose to punt until later in the year.

2. If Obama Still Had A Grandfather He Would Look Like Delbert Belton
A
couple of days ago I posted on the abject cowardice and hypocrisy of
Barack Obama for ignoring the senseless thrill killing of Australian
exchange student Christopher Lane after suffering multiple rhetorical
compound fractures in attempting to create racial animus over the
justified killing of thuglet Trayvon Martin. (When questioned about
this, the White House spokesjuvenile, Josh Earnest, gave his trademarked
stunned mullet stare and said he wasn’t familiar with the case.)
Now
Obama has a chance to redeem himself. While it is understandable that
he would be unable to empathize with a young white man gunned down while
minding his own business, another case has emerged that maybe he can
relate to. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. Department of Justice fighting… to keep poor kids in bad Louisiana schools
The
Obama administration is couching its ongoing need to keep as many
African-Americans poor and uneducated as possible in more favorable
(read: less morally depraved) terms: the Justice Department is
pretending that they’re worried that taking black kids out of . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. Unbeatable villains and perpetual despair
What
passes for “leadership” in the modern “civil-rights” community has
frequently compared the shooting of Trayvon Martin to the brutal murder
of black teenager Emmett Till in the 1950s. One
of the people who did this is billionaire Oprah Winfrey, fresh from
nearly destroying the life of an innocent Swiss shop clerk by falsely
accusing her of racism. Asked about Winfrey’s comparison on MSNBC Friday morning, Emmett Till’s cousin Simeon Wright replied . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. The Bayou Corne Sinkhol
Scientifically
illiterate and agenda-driven journalists can ruin what is actually a
valid story. Today’s example is the coverage of the Bayou Corne
sinkhole, an ongoing environmental situation of considerable concern at
the Napoleonville Salt Dome in Assumption Parish, Louisiana. About 350
residents of the quiet community of Bayou Corne have been evacuated from
their homes since the sinkhole’s sudden formation nearly a year ago. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6. BuzzFeed Sources Think If You Like @Uber You Must Be Getting Paid
I
know I have some pretty stupid critics out there, but this may be the
stupidest thing I’ve ever been accused of. See this email from Rosie
Gray at BuzzFeed. Bless her heart, she’s having track down people and
ask them if they are getting paid to say awesome stuff about Uber.
Anyone who has ever used the service says awesome things about Uber. But read this nonsense . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
