"We should insist that if the immigrant who comes here does in good faith become an American and assimilates himself to us he shall be treated on an exact equality with every one else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed or birth-place or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American and nothing but an American. If he tries to keep segregated with men of his own origin and separated from the rest of America, then he isn't doing his part as an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. . . We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language, for we intend to see that the crucible turns our people out as Americans, of American nationality, and not as dwellers in a polyglot boarding-house; and we have room for but one soul loyalty, and that is loyalty to the American people." President Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Colorado Governor Richard Lamm is purported to have given a speech on eight ways to destroy America. Whether he gave the speech or not, the eight ways he delineated are still valid:
"First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country."
"Second, to destroy America, invent multi-culturalism and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture."
"Third, we could make the United States an 'Hispanic Québec, without much effort."
"Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated."
"My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and businesses to give these efforts lots of money."
"My sixth plan for America 's downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties."
"Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits. Make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of diversity."
He pretty much summed up his speech with:
"I would find a word similar to 'heretic' in the 16th century - that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like 'racist' or 'xenophobe' halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-cultum, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of 'Victimology,' I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: that because immigration has been good for America , it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them."
Obviously, Governor Lamm was speaking about the flood of immigrants coming into America from our Southern border. But his admonitions and that of President Theodore Roosevelt's apply to the entire subject of immigration, no matter which culture comes to America.
It is difficult to discuss any ethnic group without taking up the issue of discrimination. All cultures discriminate, some more than others. It is inbred and probably a genetic component of all racial groups. You won't find too many blonde, blue-eyed people, or even Blacks or Latinos in Asia. Only America and Europe have become the melting pots of cultures and races, perhaps to their own detriment.
Most ethnic populations are directly related to geography, continents and the heat of the Sun. The torrid zones, South America and Africa have produced black people. The northern latitudes have produced white people. The middle latitudes have produced brown, yellow and red skinned people. Although there are minor differences in our DNA, we are all species of the human race.
The mixing of the races and cultures has more to do with mobility than anything else. Early trading by sailing ships started global migration. Bad weather and droughts induced migration to other countries for mere survival. Small events even triggered migration. "In 1763, Filipinos established the small settlement of Saint Malo, Louisiana, after fleeing mistreatment aboard Spanish ships. Since there were no Filipino women with them, the Manilamen, as they were known, married Cajun and Native American women." (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Asian_Americans
The Chinese and Japanese settled in Hawaii and the indigenous people were diluted by the influx of Asians through inter-breeding. Simply due to increasing modes of travel, the races have been inter-breeding across racial lines for the last 500 to 1,000 years or more and the pace is quickening with air travel. It is not difficult to foresee that racial inter-breeding will, in the end, mix the races to a point where there will only be one race, with one dominate gene coding for skin color.

In our last column on this subject we took up the American Indian and Latino ethnic groups. In this column we will take up the Asian and Black ethnic populations. Please take not that what we portray here are generalizations and there are always exceptions to any generalization. Also, the information, analysis and opinions presented are from our perspective and any perspective is clouded by the inherent bias and potential mis-information of the author. Although we try to limit the bias and mis-information, it could be there nevertheless. We hope the reader will take the following information in that context.
We'll first take up Asian Americans a term that was adopted in the 60's to get away from the stereotype of "Oriental". Construction of massive projects, like the transcontinental railroads in the North American continent in the middle and late 19th Century, required large labor forces to complete. Unskilled Chinese and Japanese immigrants were shipped in from overseas for that purpose. They were poorly treated and subjected to discrimination, not only culturally, but by the U. S. Government and state governments passing laws to make them second class citizens, prohibit inter-racial marriages, or limiting immigration of Asians to zero. It is interesting to note that the Asian population only represents less than 6% of the total American population. However, "as of 2008, Asian Americans had the highest educational attainment level and median household income of any racial demographic in the country, and they attained the highest median personal income overall." (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_American)
It is our opinion that this can be attributed to the strong family culture of a race that has a 5,000-year history of complex civilization, steeped in the Buddhist religion, cultural discipline, with a highly competitive nature and the desire to succeed at anything they do. Strangely enough, the American culture had these attributes as well, that is until they got too comfortable, lazy and found a "mother" in government who would take care of their needs for free.
Have Asians assimilated into American culture as President Roosevelt admonished? Well, not so much. But what is interesting about Asians is, you never hear about them in the news. We hear a lot from the Blacks and Latinos, but the Asians are significantly silent. Sure, they have their gangs, drugs and corruption, but it is taken care of within their community. What Asians have done is to exploit American freedom, education and employment opportunities to their fullest, while other races complain about being victims of discrimination or territorial usurpations.
Now comes the toughest part of this assignment. It is so emotionally charged that anytime someone brings up the subject they are called racists or xenophobes. If a white person dares to enter the forbidden zone, he or she is obviously a bigot or a racist. But what we said in the introduction to Part 1 of this series still applies. "Our powers of observation, coupled with our wider interest in all things, along with our intellect and intuition, allow us to paint a picture of reality that may escape many Americans today. It is through this prism and this wider interest that we describe what we have seen, heard and read over the last three quarters of a century regarding the issues of American ethnicity."
There are two questions that immediately come to mind. Have Blacks been discriminated against and mistreated by the White and other global cultural groups since they were shanghaied out of Dark Africa as slaves? Are Blacks still being discriminated against by society? The answer to both questions is of course, YES! However, on a larger note, are other ethnic groups being discriminated against by different cultural groups and the answer again is a resounding YES! As we said earlier, "All cultures discriminate, some more than others. It is inbred and probably a genetic component of all racial groups."
Why have Blacks attached themselves in a large percentage, to the Democrat party? Because the Democrat party promises them "things" and they are more than willing to promise "things" in exchange for the Black vote. The fact that 95% of Blacks vote for Democrats is a tribute to the Democrat's success and how easy Blacks have been duped.
Blacks found a "mother" in government who would take care of their needs for free and be an advocate for what they perceive to be a culture of discrimination by other races, but more particularly the white race. On a general basis, Blacks still perceive themselves as victims of past discrimination and want the power of government to fight and hold at bay the current discrimination perpetrators by paying Blacks reparations (massive welfare) and giving them favorable treatment by passing unconstitutional laws to do it. The equal protection clause in the U. S. Constitution prohibits such laws from being passed. But never let it be said that a little thing like the constitution would ever get in the way of what Progressives believe is good for the people, especially if there are votes to mine (buy).
In contrast, the Asians were badly discriminated against since the first one had the misfortune of setting his foot on America shores, but you don't hear a lot from the Asian community begging to get reparations, favorable treatment, or requesting the government to be their advocates, with the exception of course, of what was done to the Japanese Americans (legal and loyal American citizens) during World War II when they were forcibly removed to internment camps. Very few Germans found their way to internment camps and yet both countries were our sworn enemies of America.
As far as assimilation into American culture, like many other ethnic groups, Blacks have resisted. The family unit and family discipline are not as tight in the Black culture as it is in other cultures with a longer history of civilization. Part of the difficulties in the Black race is their acceptance of their being victims, proffered by Government through propaganda, in exchange for their votes.
In Shakespeare's Hamlet, the Queen is purported to have said: "The lady doeth protest too much, me thinks". The meaning being that the "lady" has no credibility and that her "cries" are not genuine. When the majority of the Black race decide to escape from the self-induced trap of victimhood placed upon them by Government for their vote, shed government dependency and emerge into the light of productive civilization, then and only then will they rise up and become proud, self-reliant, responsible and independent individuals that will contribute to the freedom, prosperity and generosity of America. This observation is a broad generalization and there are tens of thousands, perhaps millions of exceptions to it. It is those exceptions to which the Black people as a whole, should place their trust and endeavor to emulate those that have beaten the odds, risen above prejudice and ignored undeserved discrimination. Many prominent individuals come to mind. However, if their heroes be undisciplined sports figures, rappers sorely lacking in common decency and Black race-baiters like the Rev. Jackson and Al Sharpton, they will emulate those qualities and it will drag the entire Black race into the cesspool of depravity.
In a western song there is a line that goes like this: "you surround yourself by people who demand so little of you". This is true in the Black culture and equally true in many other cultures as well. Perhaps all of us need to raise our standards a little if we hope to teach decency, common courtesy and the rewards of hard work and honor to our children and grand children.
The reality is, a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, non-assimilating society will tear America to pieces and it is well on its way to doing so. If there is not more assimilation and adherence to our English language and the principles of liberty by all Americans, it has no chance of survival at all as a monolithic culture of one language, one loyalty, one supreme law and one cultural cohesion.
In the end, ladies and gentlemen, people of all ethnic and religious backgrounds are all one species of humans but it may take several more centuries before the clouds of discrimination, bigotry, religion, cultural and genetic differences, over which wars are waged, will be but a footnote in the history books. Unfortunately, today, our emphasis is on our cultural and religious differences and not on our human commonality. Humans have a long way to go before they can really say, with accuracy they are created in God's image.
