PHOENIX (Reuters) – A federal judge plans to appoint a monitor to watch over the operations of hardline Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose office had been found by the judge to have racially profiled Latino drivers during the lawman’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
U.S. District Judge Murray Snow said in a court hearing on Friday that the Maricopa County lawman, who styles himself as “America’s toughest sheriff,” needed an independent check on his actions to prevent such profiling from continuing in the future.
Now comes the hinky part of this smelly action on the part of this smelly judge boys and girls.
The judge, who ruled Arpaio had violated the constitutional rights of Latino drivers, had ordered lawyers for the sides to try to agree to steps to correct the abuse, but their efforts were largely unsuccessful.

WASHINGTON – As the Syrian government braces for a possible U.S. attack in response to the gas attacks on civilians near Damascus, there are increasing indications that its leadership is positioning people as human shields around sensitive targets.

Sources say that the Syrian leadership has begun to place thousands of prisoners at sites thought to be targets of the U.S. cruise missiles that would be expected should President Barack Obama go ahead with a “limited” response to what the U.S. administration believes was the use of poison gas on Syrian citizens on Aug. 21 in a region on the outskirts of Damascus.

All my life I have heard the many Religious Denominations as they make the claim, from the pulpits, of:

If you are not Catholic you are going to hell. If you are not Lutheran you are going to hell. If you are not Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian and so on and on and on, you are not going to heaven.

It is a shame but I have heard laic church members echoing these claims as they almost chortle with glee as they say, “If you do not practice the same faith as I do you are doomed.”

Added to the claims of damnation are the many man-made laws of the many Denominations that claim to be laws man must live by. As example:

Chewing Tobacco, smoking and using snuff; dancing, drinking (at all), listening to rock music, watching television; wearing make-up or jewelry, reading the Sunday paper; swimming with the opposite sex, wearing short skirts allowing your ankles to be seen, eating meat on Friday; wearing perfume, and on and on will doom you to hell.

Then there are Denominations that live without modern conveniences that they believe to be Godly. There are religions that make similar claims about medicines and blood transfusions claiming such to be sinful.

Yesterday, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco upheld a dangerous law that will harm children. The court ruled that California can prevent minors from receiving beneficial counseling that seeks to help them change their unwanted same-sex attractions.

I grieve over this ruling because I know how much it will hurt the children and parents we represent.

We must keep fighting for these children. Some of these children we represent are in the teens. They began to experience unwanted same-sex attractions. Counsel has helped them change these unwanted attractions or behavior. Their self-esteem has returned. Their relationships with friends and family have been repaired, but now the counsel, which has saved them, may be abruptly stopped.

We need your help. This battle is not yet over. We must fight, and we must win for the sake of these children.

Under the law that was scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2013, minors will not be able to receive any counsel from a licensed therapist that seeks to change unwanted same-sex sexual or romantic attractions, behaviors or mannerisms, or identity.
