Obama Warns Republicans Not to Tie Keystone Pipeline to Payroll Tax Cut

WASHINGTON – President Obama warned congressional Republicans that he would reject any effort to tie extraneous issues to an extension of the payroll tax cut, including the approval of an oil pipeline between the U.S. and Canada.
"If the payroll tax cut is attached to a whole bunch of extraneous issues not related to making sure that Americans' taxes don't go up on Jan. 1, it's not something I would accept," Obama said Wednesday following a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

ALABAMA'S AG REFINING A LAW THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL

ALABAMA A.G. MAKES REVISION SUGGESTIONS FOR IMMIGRATION LAW

In a memo dated December 1 sent to state legislative leaders, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange suggested a number of changes the state’s controversial anti-illegal immigration law. Among his suggestions are repealing some sections of the law, including the provisions making it illegal for an immigrant to fail to carry registration documents and allowing private lawsuits against officials who fail to carry out the law.

According to Strange, his suggestions were made with the goals of making the law easier to defend in court, assisting in law enforcement implementation, and removing burdens on law abiding citizens without weakening the law.

HB 56 went into effect earlier this fall after U.S. Federal District Court Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn ruled that most of the law is constitutional enjoining only a few parts. By far, the law is considered the toughest crackdown on illegal immigration in the country.

OK STATE SENATOR WANTS $2,500 BACKDOOR AMNESTY PROGRAM

Oklahoma State Senator Harry Coates submitted Senate Bill 995 last Monday in response to House Bil 1804, which cracked on illegal immigrants across the state. The intention of Coates’ bill is to allow illegal immigrants to legally work in the state, a measure Coates believes will provide a boost to sales and tax revenues. Following the passage of House Bill 1804, illegal immigrants fled the state for friendlier ones like Texas which Coates calls a “devastating” blow to many of Oklahoma’s industries including agriculture, energy and construction.
