Excerpt: A Marine combat veteran who was shot in the head while patrolling San Diego streets as a police officer was remembered Friday as a generous and upbeat leader whose dedication to public service inspired those around him. Jeremy Henwood, 36, was posthumously promoted to major in the Marine Corps Reserve at a funeral service attended by more than 3,000 mourners, including California Gov. Jerry Brown. Henwood died six months after returning from Afghanistan when a motorist flashed his headlights behind his patrol car, as if to seek help, then pulled alongside and shot him. Police Chief William Lansdowne said a surveillance video taken at a fast-food restaurant two blocks from the shooting showed the officer had just bought a meal for a 10-year-old boy who was watching him in awe. ... Police shot and killed Dejon White in a confrontation minutes after Henwood was shot on Saturday. Police said White, 23, shot another man in the parking lot of another restaurant shortly before he attacked Henwood.

Federal judge throws out Obama drilling rules

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A judge on Friday threw out Obama administration rules that sought to slow down expedited environmental review of oil and gas drilling on federal land.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal ruled in favor of a petroleum industry group, the Western Energy Alliance, in its lawsuit against the federal government, including Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.

The ruling reinstates Bush-era expedited oil and gas drilling under provisions called categorical exclusions on federal lands nationwide, Freudenthal said.

Confidence among U.S. consumers plunged in August to the lowest level since May 1980, adding to concern that weak employment gains and volatility in the stock market will prompt households to retrench.
The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan preliminary index of consumer sentiment slumped to 54.9 from 63.7 the prior month. The gauge was projected to decline to 62, according to the median forecast in a Bloomberg News survey.
The biggest one-week slump in stocks since 2008 and the threat of default on the nation’s debt may have exacerbated consumers’ concerns as unemployment hovers above 9 percent and companies are hesitant to hire. Rising pessimism poses a risk household spending will cool further, hindering a recovery that Federal Reserve policy makers said this week was already advancing “considerably slower” than projected.

Judge OKs Recall Vote to take place on Ariz. Senator Russell Pearce (author of Immigration law)

Our hero, Senator Pearce, has a chance of being recalled for standing up to the leftist machine and attempting to enforce the law the Feds wouldn't enforce. He authored the famous SB 1070 that several other states have since introduced and several voted into law in their states. The feds/DOJ have also filed suit against those states.

Senator Pearce has a group opposing him and hell bent on making sure he is recalled from the State Senate. We need to do everything in our power to ensure that the conservative base in his district GET out to SUPPORT Senator Pearce when this recall election takes place. We must not let them win.

Herman Cain Wins the Immigration Question at the Republican Presidential Debate

Herman Cain gave the best answer to the immigration question at Thursday's Republican Presidential Debate. Mr. Cain said unequivocally that we must secure the border with "whatever means necessary." And Cain agrees that the states should be allowed to deal with the illegal alien issue...a position recently upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding Arizona's E-Verify law. He also said what many of us have been saying for years, "enforce the laws that are there."
