Michele Bachmann: Washington Is 'Corrupt Paradigm,' and I'll Change It

House Tea Party Caucus leader Michele Bachmann is surging in the GOP presidential polls and now is virtually tied with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in Iowa, the crucial early-voting state.

Despite joining the primary race in earnest only two weeks ago, when she shone in a debate, Bachmann trailed Romney only narrowly, by 1 percent, this weekend in a Des Moines Register poll.

Now we even have the nonpartisan, sterile, unflappable Congressional Budget Office virtually predicting a "fiscal crisis," yet the Democratic Senate hasn't passed a budget for 785 days. There ought to be a law.

When Barack Obama took office in January 2009, the U.S. deficit stood at $10.63 trillion, a huge number indeed. However, as of May 2011, that figure has jumped to $14.32 trillion - a 34.7% increase in just over two years! If the deficit were to grow at the same level for another two years under Obama, we would be looking at a deficit of nearly $20 trillion.

On second day of war games, the Islamic Republic fired 14 missiles in an exercise intended to 'show preparedness' for Israeli or American attack.

First Lady Michelle Obama: “You know, it’s … we’re ready, you know. Our children, you know, could care less about what we’re doing. We work hard to do that. Fortunately, we have help from the media. I have to say this: I’m very grateful for the support and kindness that we’ve gotten. People have respected their privacy and in that way, I think, you know, no matter what people may feel about my husband’s policies or what have you, they care about children and that’s been good to see.”

Ben Smith’s column in Politico (below) reported late last week that CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) has been stripped of its non-profit tax status by the IRS. What’s more, note CAIR’s less than candid explanations for what happened (highlighted below). 

Among those who follow these matters it is common knowledge that CAIR has not filed its 990 non-profit tax return for the past three years.
