Susan Jones is reporting that

Republican Gov. Scott Walker released a statement after Obama referred to the union protests in Wisconsin while addressing a governors' meeting in Washington, saying:

"I don't think it does anybody any good when public employees are denigrated or vilified or their rights are infringed upon. We need to attract the best and the brightest to public service. These times demand it."

In response, Gov. Walker said:

Targeted are three bills, H.R. 3, No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act; H.R. 217, Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act; and H.R. 358, the Protect Life Act. These proposed bills would make a significant dent in the pro-abortion camp’s profitability column and agenda.

Rhetorical Assault: The Daily Kos says “H.R. 3 imposes a series of tax hikes on women and small businesses, in addition to outlawing legal and life-saving medical procedures in thousands of facilities around the country.”

'Free' E-ZPass doled out to state workers, retirees

ALBANY - Every time you drive through that E-ZPass lane it costs you. But the Waste Watchers have learned not everyone pays.
Thousands of state workers and retirees are getting a free ride. Tolls that are never collected. Money that never goes back into the Thruway budget.
That bothers school Principal Tom Sincavage, who spends up to $50 on E-ZPass each month.
"To drive from where I live in Canajoharie to Albany, probably costs me additional five dollars in tolls in addition to the gas. So I think that's wrong," he said.

We are used to hearing about fraud and government programs that fail to accomplish their goals. It now appears that yet another category might be important: duplication. Hundreds of major government programs have been discovered to duplicate what other government programs are doing. If we are to believe a new Government Accountability Office report, consolidation of programs could easily save up to $200 billion over the next decade.

GOP spending bill passes in landslide as 100 Dems defect

The House on Tuesday approved a two-week spending resolution by a 335-91 vote, as more than 100 Democrats joined all but six Republicans to support a measure aimed at averting a government shutdown this week.
More Democrats voted for the measure, which would reduce spending by $4 billion over the next two weeks, than against it, despite criticism of the GOP proposal ahead of the vote by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the Democratic leader and former Speaker.

Over the past year, gaming and mining executives have held secret meetings with Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford and Assembly Speaker John Oceguera to discuss strategies for sticking small business owners with the bill for excessive state spending. These conspirators aim to penalize all businesses with a new business franchise tax or a revenue-increasing expansion of the sales tax base (as opposed to the revenue-neutral expansion proposed by the Nevada Policy Research Institute).
