POLITICAL DIGEST 02/13/2011 CONSERVATIVE

I post articles because I think they are of interest. Doing so doesn’t mean that I necessarily agree with every—or any—opinion in the posted article. Nor that I disagree with them, of course.

Egypt’s Military Leaders Face Power Sharing Test
Excerpt: The two military officers who have risen to power in Egypt are members of the very elite that benefited from the reign of President Hosni Mubarak. Now the question being raised here and in Cairo is whether they can figure out a way to share power with a restive population that for decades has had none. Both are members of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which has rarely met but will run the country at least until elections are held later in the year. Each gained credibility with protesters during the turmoil of the past three weeks by venturing out into the streets and mingling with the crowds, sending strong signals that they would not stand behind the president or order soldiers to fire on the demonstrators. Despite this nod to populism, American military officers who know them say that neither officer is fiercely pro-democracy; in fact one of them, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, is seen as a strident opponent of political change. Both are likely to have calculated that protecting the military’s status and credibility was more important than standing behind an increasingly isolated and weakened president. (An interesting look at the two top leaders of Egypt's military. Oddly, the new Vice President (who is also a general officer) isn't one of them. Ron P.)

Rudderless in the White House
Excerpt: Then of course yesterday, CIA Chief Leon Panetta said Mubarak was probably on his way out, right up until Mubarak said he was staying. Power, however, seems to lie with the Army and Vice President Suleiman — who has held the three-decades-vacant office by appointment for all of twelve days. One wonders if this is what Biden considers “meaningful” or “legitimate.” And then there have been things like the false assurance to Congress by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper that the Muslim Brotherhood is “largely secular,” and Biden’s insistence that Mubarak is not a dictator. Things didn’t get really bad, however, until Obama began insisting, quite publicly, that Mubarak take all those “concrete steps” to leave office. It’s a generally accepted rule of diplomacy that you don’t make demands in public unless you know in advance the answer is Yes, or that you have the means to enforce your demand if the answer is No. We saw this same behavior when the administration was young and still trying to find its footing. Remember when Obama traveled all the way to Denmark to win the Olympics for Chicago, only to get rejected in the first round of voting? Same thing now. If you’d been hoping Obama would grow into the office, those hopes just got dashed against the stones of the Presidential Palace in Cairo. (In the world of diplomacy, perception is everything. It is inconceivable the USA is now perceived as “more effective” than we were three weeks ago. No matter who “wins” now, we will be seen as the “losers” by both allies and enemies. Ron P.)

THE FUTURE FOR EGYPT?

Submitted by: Donald Hank
A few, brief words from an American - Bill Warner, which will enlighten you very clearly on what is coming to us, in the shape of Islam...and Jihad!

He briefly explains about Mohammed and the importance of Jihad. If you don't understand it, read this and you will! It won't take you long to read it.

Religion of Peace - nonsense! It is their sworn culture, which they all follow. They execute, enslave and torture all who don't comply! Think about THAT one!

The stated aim of ALL Muslims (and which we have even heard clearly said here in England, stated publicly at meetings and also on TV!) is world Islamic domination and rule! Can't say it any plainer than THAT!

You may know some very nice ones, but my advice would be to be very careful
and always remember their beliefs and basic loyalties! Girls....stay well away.
Let's all watch Cairo, for a short while.

Bill Warner clearly says below:-

All Islamic political doctrine is determined by the example of Mohammed.
Mohammed is the ideal Islamic leader. He rose to power by force of arms—jihad. Jihad was critical in his rise to total and absolute power.  This military philosophy was so important that it was given a unique name—jihad.Jihad is practiced by armed force, speech, writing and cash contributions through charities.
There is less Jew hatred in Mein Kampf than in the Trilogy. Ask this question: if Egypt becomes more Islamic, as the Muslim Brotherhood wants, what will the new Egyptian policy be towards Israel?

OBAMA LIKENS HIMSELF TO 'THE GIPPER' AS WE SEE THE MIDDLE EAST AFLAME

As Goes Egypt, So Goes the Middle East

What's happening right now in Egypt is bigger than the fall of the Berlin Wall. The dominoes are falling in the Middle East; and as goes Egypt so goes the region.
Egypt has been the heartbeat of the Muslim Arab world for millennia. The problem is we don’t yet which way those dominoes will fall – towards us or against us. We don’t know if the euphoria we see in Tahrir Square today will end ultimately in jubilation or tears.
On one hand, in just a few years' time, we could see all the Muslim states from Tunisia to Saudi Arabia, even as far east as Pakistan, with some form of consensual government, moving in fits and starts toward democracy, with American students racing to the Middle East to spend their junior year abroad learning Arabic. On the other hand, we could just as easily see all those states in the hands of Islamic fundamentalists, bent on establishing a Caliphate throughout the region and beyond, sending terrorists to Europe and America. And it's unlikely to be anything in between.

IS PAKISTAN TO FALL TO TERRORISM TOO?

Bhutto was killed Dec. 27, 2007, in a gun and suicide bomb attack after returning to Pakistan to campaign in elections Musharraf agreed to allow after months of domestic and international pressure. Musharraf blamed the Pakistani Taliban, an al-Qaida affiliated group, for the attack, but government prosecutors now allege he was part of the plot to kill the popular former premier.
"A joint investigation team in its report to the court has found Musharraf guilty of being involved in the conspiracy and abetting to kill Benazir Bhutto," said Zulfikar Ali Chaudhry, the lead prosecutor.
He said the probe has evidence that Musharraf was "completely involved" through Baitullah Mehsud, the late leader of the Pakistani Taliban, and that prosecutors are seeking a murder trial. He did not elaborate.
Musharraf has always denied any role in Bhutto's death and scoffed at critics who said he did not do enough to protect her. Mehsud, who was killed in a U.S. missile strike in 2009, also denied targeting Bhutto.
Musharraf's lawyer, Mohammad Ali Saif, said his client was innocent of any allegations but had no plans to contest them in court, where he's been ordered to appear on Feb. 19.

Susan Rice kicks off U.N. series

By MIKE ALLEN & JAKE SHERMAN | 2/11/11

Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, will argue in a major address Friday evening that the nation should “strengthen” — not “starve” — the world body.
The address is the first in a series of speeches — to continue this spring — making the case to the American people for why the U.N. matters to national security, and detailing how it is being improved. The ambassador will be speaking to the World Affairs Council of Oregon in Portland.

VIDEO: Obama addresses U.N. - Sept. '10

“Because of the U.N., the world doesn’t look to America to solve every problem alone. … We’re far better off working to strengthen the U.N. than trying to starve it — and then having to choose between filling the void ourselves, or leaving real threats untended.”
