IRS: The Left's Weapon of Choice

Here's a question: When did it become acceptable for the IRS to be used as a tool to target enemies of the president? Moreover, what article or amendment of the U.S. Constitution authorizes a component of the Executive Branch to be used as a powerful political weapon? The answers to these questions should be obvious to most: "never" and "none," respectively. But apparently that's not so for Barack Obama.
Fresh from wiping mud off its face for its scandalous behavior in targeting the Left's political enemies, the IRS is proposing new rules that double-down on that egregious behavior. The new rules would restrain the free-speech rights of certain organizations under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code by preventing them from posting officeholder votes and quotes on their websites within two months of an election. These organizations are politically active nonprofits and exist specifically to promote political speech and issue advocacy. (And with the Senate "going nuclear" and allowing Obama to pack the courts -- especially the DC Circuit -- with leftists, the courts will surely uphold these new rules.)

JIHAD WATCH 12/13/2013

Dec 12, 2013 08:21 pm | Robert Spencer
"Last year, during my visit to Washington, in a very important briefing a day before I met U.S. President [Barack Obama], his national security adviser Tom Donilon, and senior White House officials, generals, and intelligence officials, the national security adviser met with me. He told me: 'The Taliban are...

All over the world, believers in the canonical story of Islam’s origins are structuring their lives around the teachings of the Qur’an and Muhammad, and waging jihad warfare against unbelievers in accord with those teachings. If they cared to look into the strange history of the origins of Islam,...

Sandoval’s E-Tax and O-Care Could Come Back to Bite Him

Most of Nevada’s beleaguered taxpayers focus on the fact that Gov. Brian Sandoval (R&R-Partners) broke his word not to raise taxes by not once, but twice raising the “temporary” tax hikes approved in 2009; taxes that were supposed to “sunset” in 2011.  But the governor is also responsible for another tax hike coming to Nevada e-shoppers everywhere on New Year’s Day.

Indeed, beginning January 1, 2014 your purchases - which are currently made tax-free at Amazon.com - will be taxed, in addition to any shipping charges, thanks to some arm-twisting by Sandoval to get the company to collect the tax even though Nevada’s voters overwhelmingly rejected such an e-tax, not once, but twice at the ballot in 2008 and 2010.

So much for listening to the people.

RedState Briefing 12/13/2013

Morning Briefing
For December 13, 2013

1.  Boehner’s Crocodile Tears for Amnesty
It is an odd fight. Such a weird little battle over meaningless and known outcomes. Conservatives, aware from press reports and congressional leaks, knew what would be in the Paul Ryan drafted budget plan. The conservative groups released statements in opposition to the plan based on what they had been told. But there was never any doubt about the Ryan plan passing.

After the plan was publicly unveiled by the Republicans at six o’clock on a Tuesday night, conservative fears were realized. Those things they knew would be in the plan were, in fact, in the plan. The plan funded Obamacare. The plan raised taxes. The plan broke the sequestration spending limits that only a month before Republican leaders had said would never be broken.

Speaker Boehner then did something curious. He held two press conferences wherein he lashed out at conservative groups. He denounced them for making up their minds before the plan was publicly unveiled. Never mind that everyone knew what would be in the plan. Never mind that he only gave the public thirty-six hours to explore the text of the plan — a violation of a campaign promise to give at least seventy-two hours of examination. Speaker Boehner’s statement sounded like former Speaker Pelosi claiming we had to pass the Ryan plan to find out what was in the Ryan plan.
