Thomas More Law Center to Defend 55 Foot Cross

ANN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center (TMLC), a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it is representing the City of Frankenmuth, Michigan concerning a constitutional challenge to the 55 foot cross located on public land. The stainless steel cross, constructed with private donations, was erected in1976 as a part of the City’s celebration of America’s Bicentennial.
In a letter to Frankenmuth city attorney Peter Goodstein dated July 31, 2012, Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) demanded that the City promptly remove the cross from public property or face litigation. The letter claimed they had received a complaint about the cross, but did not name the complainant.
The cross was erected during our Nation’s Bicentennial as an historical marker to reflect the City’s unique founding as an Indian mission colony in 1845, and the sacrifices of its early settlers.

False. Based on unemployment, inflation and interest rates, the recession of 1981-82 was worse. Unemployment during the early '80s reached 10.8 percent, inflation 13.5 percent, and prime interest rates reached 21.5 percent. During this so-called "Great Recession," the numbers peaked at 10.2 unemployment, 5.6 percent inflation and 7.25 percent for the prime interest rate.

ANN ARBOR, MI – Last week the Government filed its opposition to Thomas More Law Center’s motion for Preliminary Injunction in its case to stop the HHS mandate. The 
motion was filed on behalf of Legatus, a nonprofit organization of Catholic business leaders and Michigan-based Weingartz Supply Company, and its owner Daniel Weingartz. Earlier, Federal District Judge Robert H. Cleland, at the request of the Government, moved the date for hearing oral arguments from September 26, 2012 to September 28, 2012. The hearing is scheduled for 9:30am at the U.S. Courthouse in Detroit, Michigan.

Former federal prosecutor Charles LaBella's warning about AFL-CIO union boss Richard Trumka before the Democrats' national convention in 2000 fell on deaf ears -- and not much has changed a dozen years later.
You see, in 1999 Trumka was implicated in a money laundering scheme during his tenure as treasurer of the AFL-CIO.
As the Wall Street Journal explained, "Trumka has taken the Fifth Amendment both before a Congressional committee and court-appointed election monitor, but remains in office despite a 40-year old AFL-CIO rule calling for removing of officials taking such refuge."
A few years earlier, Trumka and other United Mineworkers union bosses were charged in a $27 million wrongful death suit by the widow of Eddie York, a nonunion contractor who was shot in the back of the head and killed while leaving a worksite near a UMW strike.

On a different note, I think Bill Clinton gave a good speech last night that was typically Clinton — long, meandering, undisciplined, very funny, and made you like him even if you don't. While much of the press was fawning over it, and I totally see why and why so many people miss Clinton compared to Obama, there was just one moment where I think Bill Clinton did irreparable harm to Barack Obama's re-election chances. It was such a short moment, most of the media ignored it. But this is the moment that is going to live on to hurt Barack Obama. It was this one.
