Debt ceiling: More Democrats threaten to vote against raising borrowing limit

A growing number of Democrats are threatening to defy the White House over the national debt, joining Republican calls for deficit cuts as a requirement for consenting to lift the country’s borrowing limit.
The tension is the latest illustration of how the tea-party-infused GOP is driving the debate in Washington over federal spending. And it shows how the debt issue is testing the Obama administration’s clout as Democrats, particularly those from politically competitive states, resist White House arguments against setting conditions on legislation to raise the debt ceiling.
The push-back has come in recent days from Sens. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a freshman who is running for reelection next year. Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) told constituents during the Easter recess that he would not vote to lift the debt limit without a “real and meaningful commitment to debt reduction.”

Illegal Immigrants Disregard Laws without Fear

Colorado is among the most tolerant sanctuary states when it comes to illegal immigration.  In recent years, such “forgiving” policy has resulted in a rash of fatal accidents caused by illegal immigrations, who in a less tolerant state would have been successfully deported long before others had to die.

Here is just one of the painful results of sanctuary state and city policies:

In January 2011, Norma Paola Vera-Nolasco, 31, was arrested at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix, as she attempted to flee to Mexico.  Her crime? Vera-Nolasko was driving the truck that hit and killed valet, Jose Medina outside a Denver nightclub on January 22.  Twenty-one year-old Jose Medina was helping a woman exit her car when he was hit with such force that he was thrown 50 feet into the street.

Vera-Nolasco was charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, criminal impersonation, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. She was drunk at the time of the accident. In 2008, Vera-Nolasco was arrested in Aurora, CO, for driving without a license, but due to Aurora’s sanctuary policy, she was released without being reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

SENATOR LINDSEY GRAHAM - PORKER OF THE MONTH!

Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has named Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) Porker of the Month for threatening to bring the Senate to a standstill over Congress’s failure to fund a $40,000 earmark for a federal study on deepening the port of Charleston.   On April 11, Sen. Graham threw a fit, telling reporters that he would “tie the Senate in knots” until the port study money was approved.  Unfortunately, the tantrum paid off.  Despite Congress’ ongoing earmark moratorium, on April 15 Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pledged on the Senate floor that he would find funding for the study before the end of fiscal year (FY) 2011.  “This project and the study it requires both reek of pork,” declared CAGW President Tom Schatz.  “There is absolutely no reason that taxpayers in places like Omaha or Denver should be forced to finance Charleston’s port.”  For insisting that federal taxpayers deep-six their dollars into a project that should be funded by the state and the private sector, CAGW named Sen. Gasoline Taxes Vs. Exxon Profit, Per Gallon

The map above from API shows gasoline taxes by state (combined local, state and federal), which range from a low of 26.4 cents per gallon in Alaska to a high of of 66.1 cents per gallon in California, averaging 48.1 cents per gallon across all states.  How does that compare to oil company industry profits per gallon?

According to this post on Exxon Mobil’s Perspective Blog , “For every gallon of gasoline, diesel or finished products we manufactured and sold in the United States in the last three months of 2010, we earned a little more than 2 cents per gallon. That’s not a typo. Two cents.”

Tens of millions of Americans filed their taxes last week. But few of them are aware that millions of their tax dollars fund the activities and agenda of a radical, racially-divisive organization that uses those funds against their values.
The National Council of La Raza - literally "The Race" - opposes commonsense immigration enforcement against illegal aliens, or even to secure the borders. These schools utilize so-called "La Raza Studies", which teach the almost exclusively Hispanic students that American laws and culture are racist, and that the American Southwest was STOLEN from Mexico, and must one day be "reconquered" by Hispanics.

White House officials have been telling reporters in recent days that the Democrat doesn't intend to hang around the White House quite so much in 2011.  They explain he wants to get out more around the country because, as everyone knows, that midterm election shellacking on Nov. 2 had nothing to do with his health care bill, over-spending or other policies, and everything to do with Obama's not adequately explaining himself to his countrymen and women. And with only 673 days remaining in Obama's never ending presidential campaign, the incumbent's travel pace will not likely slacken.And we seniors have to "tighten our belts" because we aren't getting a COLA again this year... and none last year!
