Obama paints rosy picture of immigration reform

In his State of the Union address last month, President Obama continued to paint a rosy picture of illegal immigrants – portraying them all as honor roll students awaiting a career in public service. But we know that’s not the case. Such “talented, responsible young people” make up a tiny, tiny fraction of the 12 million illegal immigrants presently in the United States. A much larger percentage of illegal immigrants – or “undocumented workers” as the leftwing prefers – are affiliated with or involved in drug smuggling, gangs and other criminal activity. Not to mention, they ALL broke the law by crossing our unsecured southern border illegally. Although young people brought into the country through no fault of their own, and who are in fact honor roll students, make a compelling case for Amnesty – the Dream Act championed by Obama and Sen. Harry Reid would cost taxpayers more than $6 billion per year and in essence send an open invitation to every potential illegal immigrant under the age of 35 waiting to cross the unsecured U.S.-Mexico border. The spending battle finally begins this week in Congress

This past week the Senate continued debating the Federal Aviation Admin. bill but mostly was in recess while Senate Democrats conducted their legislative agenda retreat in Charlottesville, VA. What emerged from their multiple-day retreat was a clear message that they intend to attack the GOP as they construct their budget cutting Omnibus appropriations bill which will continue the funding of our Federal Government through the end of this fiscal year. (Sept.30, 2011). This Continuing resolution or CR as it is commonly called will be the subject of debate on the House side and some talk on the Senate side this coming week. The Senate Majority Leader said on the Senate floor last week that the Congress needs to concentrate on the “quality of the cuts not the quantity.” He went on to say that the cuts should not “take teachers out of the classroom or police officers off the streets.” This theme will be echoed throughout the halls of Congress beginning this week as the Senate resumes the Federal Aviation administration bill, the House begins action on the Omnibus spending bill and the President submits his annual budget to Congress Monday, Feb. 14.

BERNAKE: WE ARE MUCH CLOSER TO TOTAL DESTRUCTION THAN YOU MIGHT THINK

Official Congressional budget estimates understate the peril of rising debt, Fed chair Ben Bernanke told the Budget Committee on Capitol Hill today.

Warning that our nation's fiscal health has deteriorated appreciably since the onset of the financial crisis and the recession, Bernanke called upon lawmakers to confront the long term fiscal challenges sooner rather than later. If lawmakers don't confront them, they'll find themselves confronted by them.

From Bernanke's prepared remarks:

By definition, the unsustainable trajectories of deficits and debt that the CBO outlines cannot actually happen, because creditors would never be willing to lend to a government with debt, relative to national income, that is rising without limit. One way or the other, fiscal adjustments sufficient to stabilize the federal budget must occur at some point. The question is whether these adjustments will take place through a careful and deliberative process that weighs priorities and gives people adequate time to adjust to changes in government programs or tax policies, or whether the needed fiscal adjustments will come as a rapid and painful response to a looming or actual fiscal crisis.

Anyone who has read the news this last week knows that Obama demanded Mubarak step down "immediately" in view of Egyptian protests. In fact, there has been a rift with his State Department, which refused to support this demand -- in keeping with tradition.

So now, Iran has a similar uprising, and Obama has not issued such a demand, just a reprimand to Ahmadinejad:

The House vote expected this week may include only a PARTIAL
defunding of ObamaCare. House G.O.P. leadership has not
committed to a full 100% defunding vote. This is due to
the "self-funding" provisions inserted by Nancy Pelosi
that bind future Congresses to automatically fund much
of ObamaCare.

Many say the "self-funding" provisions are blatantly
unconstitutional. Rep. Steve King has language in place
that would FULLY DEFUND ObamaCare.

Pamela Geller, the most vocal of the activists opposed to the so-called “Ground Zero Mosque” to be built two blocks from the former site of the World Trade Center, said Friday that the Conservative Political Action Conference she was speaking at had itself been “corrupted” and “compromised by Muslim Brotherhood activists.”
Speaking at a non-official CPAC event on Friday afternoon, Geller said that many members of the board of the American Conservative Union had to go because they were allowing the event to be infiltrated by Muslim Brotherhood activists.
“If you look at the agenda of CPAC, look at all of the panels and then look at your daily news headlines, they’re either clueless or complicit,” Geller said. “And I’m telling you that before you throw the baby out with the bathwater. There are 12,000 people that come to this event that don‘t know they’ve been completely sold out by CPAC leadership. We have to take CPAC back, you can’t create this again.”

POLICE OFFER DENIED RIGHT TO VOTE AFTER REFUSING TO SURRENDER HIS WEAPON

UPDATE:   The election warden who turned the officer away has been fired, and the Bangor police chief has stated at a press conference that officers are not required to surrender their weapons at the polls. 


BANGOR, Maine — In the 18 years that he has been a police officer in Bangor, James Dearing couldn’t think of a single time when someone has asked him to turn over his firearm.

Until last Friday.

Dearing, who was patrolling his assigned beat near the Bangor Civic Center, decided to stop in and cast an early vote. He walked into the polling place in full uniform and stood in a short line with other voters.
