delegates to the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi,
Russia. And, in what may be a thumb in the eye to
Russian President Vladimir Putin over his crackdown on
gay rights, two of Obama's delegates are openly gay.
Billie Jean King, the tennis legend, and Caitlin Cahow, an Olympic medalist in women’s ice hockey, are both part of the U.S. delegation. Both are out lesbians.
Another member of the U.S. delegation, figure skating Olympic medalist Brian Boitano, routinely declines to answer questions about his sexuality, saying "everybody's got their own path" to discovering who they are.
Others in the delegation include University of California President Janet Napolitano, the former Homeland Security secretary; U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul; White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors; Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, and speed skating Olympic medalists Bonnie Blair and Eric Heiden.
In what may be another slight to the Russian president, Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and first lady Michelle Obama will not attend the opening ceremony. New Russian laws ban gay "propaganda" -- a law critics say is so vague that anyone can be prosecuted for wearing a rainbow T-shirt or holding hands in public with someone of the same sex.
"It's not about criticizing anyone," Putin said. "It's about protecting us from rather aggressive behavior from some social groups who, in my opinion, are trying to impose their points of view in a rather aggressive way."
In an apparent jab at the anti-gay laws, the United States announced this week that its delegation to the Winter Olympics will include openly gay athletes.
No member of President Barack Obama's family or active Cabinet will attend, but tennis legend Billie Jean King and figure skater Brian Boitano will.

However the A&E network did suspend the reality show star. Robertson founded his company Duck Commander back in the 70's, selling duck calls that developed a loyal following among hunters. The family has spent much time in prayer since learning
of A&E's decision. We want you to know that first
and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God
and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of
Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse,
his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible.
Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are
the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with
all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Phil would never incite or encourage hate. We are
disappointed that Phil has been placed on hiatus for
expressing his faith, which is his constitutionally
protected right. We have had a successful working
relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot
imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at
the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what
that means for the future of Duck Dynasty. Again, thank
