YOU READ THAT RIGHT -- John Dryden, an educator at Batavia High School, was disciplined by the school's administration AND by the Batavia School Board for "unprofessional conduct" -- because he did his job and taught his students the facts about the U.S. Constitution! Check out this report from Reason:
A high school social studies teacher in Batavia, Illinois, faces disciplinary action for informing students of their Fifth Amendment rights in connection with a survey asking about illegal drug use. The survey, ostensibly aimed at assessing the needs of students at Batavia High School, was distributed on April 18. After picking up the survey forms from his mailbox about 10 minutes before his first class of the day, John Dryden noticed that they had students' names on them and that they asked about drinking and drug use, among other subjects. Dryden, who had just finished teaching a unit on the Bill of Rights, worried that students might feel obliged to incriminate themselves -- an especially ticklish situation given the police officer stationed at the school. Since there was no time to confer with administrators, he says, he decided to tell his students that they did not have to complete the forms if doing so involved admitting illegal behavior. As a result of warning his students that they did not have to answer questions about alcohol and drug use on a survey distributed by their high school, Dryden got slapped down by the bureaucrats: the Kane County Chronicle reports that the Batavia School Board voted to issue "a written warning of improper conduct" to Dryden, who also was docked a day's pay.
TAKE ACTION: This is NONSENSE. All this teacher did was advise his students that they had a Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate themselves -- it was not his intention for them not to take the survey, as he himself clearly stated. These overbearing public school administrators who don't seem to have read the U.S. Constitution must hear from average Americans, across the country. We need to take a stand FOR the Constitution, and against the apparent mass insanity that's spreading around these "protectors" of our children!

Officially reprimanding a public school teacher (and docking his pay) for correctly informing his students about their Constitutional rights... it's a politically-correct TRAVESTY, and Americans need to SPEAK UP about it!
Sincerely,
William Greene, President
