US races Russia for military positions in NE Syria, including new air bases.

A large influx of US troops is entering north-eastern Syria this month to counter new Russian plans.
This step follows several summersaults on Syria by President Donald Trump since his March 20 decision to withdraw the US from that country.
Thousands of words of condemnation landed on the White House on October 13 when US Defence Secretary Mark Esper announced the decision to withdraw US forces from north-eastern Syria.
The administration was accused of deserting the US allied Kurds, the core of the Syrian Democratic Forces which defeated ISIS and opening the door for Iran to surge across the Iraqi-Syrian border.
However, thorough investigation by reliable military and intelligence sources have uncovered a totally different reality.
While substantial US forces were indeed withdrawn from their Syrian bases to Iraq with masses of equipment, US troop reinforcements have been pouring in and continue to arrive in north-eastern Syria.
Not only were existing bases not abandoned, but new positions are being set up, including one or more new US air bases.
US forces are moreover taking over Syria’s oil and gas fields after the SDF moved in.
Russian forces, whose objectives in Syria hitherto were confined to a naval base at Tartus and a big air base at Khmeimim near Latakia, have suddenly decided to establish military and military footholds in the north as a counterweight to US military hubs in the Gulf and Iraq.
Russian warships drill combat fire near Israeli coast.

The joint recent Russian Navy and Aerospace exercise conducted recently by Russia included cruise missile and heavy artillery fire drills in the eastern Mediterranean opposite the Israeli coast, Russian military sources report.
The more than five warships and support vessels taking part in the exercise, stayed outside Israel’s territorial waters.
The sources noted that this was the first time time Russian warships had conducted combat fire drills so close to Israel’s coastline.
Israeli David’s Sling in Russian hands, Russian and Chinese sources now report.

This incident, disinterred on Wednesday by Russian and Chinese sources, actually happened 18 months ago.
Two missiles of the David’s Sling cutting-edge air defence system were launched against Syrian SS-21 missiles on Monday, July 23 2018. One landed in Syria; the other one self-destructed. Both missed their targets.
The IDF spokesman eventually came clean about what happened to the David Sling on its maiden combat mission. The built-in mechanisms of the two interceptors already in flight were ordered to self-destruct. Only one did.
We now wonder why Chinese and Russian sites have decided to run this old story now.
They report that Russian missile experts are studying the secret systems and features of the Israeli David’s Sling, which is designed to intercept medium-range ballistic and low-flying cruise missiles.
