Can We Afford My Opponent's Fiscal Irresponsibility?
My
opponent likes to say he fought ObamaCare all the way to the U.S.
Supreme Court. He did and he lost the case. The one aspect the Supreme
Court agreed with the states that sued was on Medicaid expansion.
ObamaCare required the states to expand Medicaid, the Supreme Court
said that was unconstitutional. That was the only portion of the suit
that my opponent brags about that they won.
Fast forward one year and now my opponent is in the Nevada Legislature and the budget bill
is being considered. Included in the budget is a provision to expand
Medicaid to comply with ObamaCare. Since the Supreme Court ruled that
this was entirely voluntary you would think my opponent would oppose
this, but he didn’t. Instead he voted to expand Medicaid and adopt the
ObamaCare provisions.
How bad is this? According to an article in the Las Vegas Review Journal
we have had 32,000 Nevadans sign up for health insurance on the Silver
State Exchange, 27.11% of what was projected. This abysmal number is a
total failure for the Silver State Exchange. However the Silver State
Exchange was a complete success when it came to signing people up for
Medicaid. The Silver State Exchange helped sign up 150,000 new people
for Medicaid. This is not total people on Medicaid this is new people
on Medicaid.
What does that mean to the people
of Nevada. Spending on Medicaid is increasing $1.1 billion from our
last budget to the budget my opponent supported last year. Nevada
doesn’t have the resources to pay for this expansion and we don’t have
the doctors to care for these new patients. How long do you wait for a
doctor’s appointment now. How long will you have to wait when 150,000
new patients are getting “free” health care.
Tomorrow; Taxes, Taxes and Even More Taxes!
