THE KID’S ALRIGHT
Just before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning word broke that
Assemblyman Jim Wheeler was at Carson/Tahoe hospital with some kind of heart
trouble. Who knew he even HAD a heart?!!
(Just kidding, Jim.)
The Republican assemblyman from Douglas County (not Washoe
Valley, Kelly) underwent angioplasty and had two stents implanted to open
partially blocked arteries. His
cardiologist said there didn’t appear to be any damage to the heart, that Jim didn’t
require any surgery, and indicated he should be back to his normal schedule
walking door-to-door for his re-election in about a week.
“Rumors of my death were greatly exaggerated,” Wheeler
joked.
We wish you a quick recovery, Jim.
CORRECTION
In the last issue of Nevada News & Views, I referred to Scotty Swanson-Norman of Lander County
as a “gentleman.” That’s what you get
when you “assume” something (make a note Ryan Cherry). I’ve since
been advised by a number of people that Scotty is actually a woman, and a woman
highly regarded in northern Nevada. I
apologize for the mistake.
SNOW WHITE, SUPERMAN & PINOCCHIO
Snow White, Superman and Pinocchio are out for a stroll in
town one day. As they walk, they come across a sign. "Beauty contest for
the most beautiful woman in the world."
"I'm entering" said Snow White.
After half an hour she comes out and they ask her,
"Well, how'd ya do?"
"First Place!" said Snow White.
The trio continue walking and see a sign, "Contest for
the strongest man in the world."
"I'm entering," says Superman.
After half an hour he returns and they ask him, "How
did you make out?"
"First Place!" answers Superman.
They continue walking and see a sign, "Contest! Who is
the greatest liar in the world?"
Pinocchio says, "This is mine!"
Half an hour later, he returns with tears in his eyes.
"What happened?" they asked.
"Who the hell is Mark
Sherwood?" Pinocchio replied.
FIRST FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR
Julia Schliesing,
crowned Miss Minneapolis in January, will be competing for Miss Minnesota in
June and if successful will represent the Gopher State in the Miss America
Pageant in the fall. Julia is a
self-described libertarian-leaning conservative who has been active on the
campus carry issue at the University of Minnesota and hopes to one day run for
public office.
And she’ll be our First Friday Happy Hour VIP guest-of-honor
in May!

FAMOUS LAST WORDS
"What would've been better is if Cliven (Bundy) had said,
'Look, there are a number of blacks and Latinos and poor whites now that are
involved in a real slavery, which is the slavery of government dependence.’ They may not even know that they are slaves,
but there is in fact a neoslavery that exists. When you take out individual
initiative, individual responsibility, and the hope that every individual is
born with, to better their lives, to climb the economic ladder, to pursue
happiness, that is in fact a neoslavery." – Nevada 4th
congressional district candidate Niger Innis, NewsMax, 4/26/14
