THE LAST GREAT GOP VOTER
REGISTRATION PROGRAM
For
all the talk about Republican voter registration efforts in Nevada and all the
money being spent on third-party and independent voter registration programs,
there’s only been one truly successful voter registration program in Nevada
over the last 20 years…thank you very much.
In
October 1994 – the year John Ensign
defeated Rep. Jim Bilbray and was
elected to Congress - Democrats outnumbered Republicans in Nevada by 11,520
voters.
In
January 1995, I was elected chairman of the Clark County Republican Party. And using funds raised by Ensign and under
the direction of GOP uber-consultant Benay
Stout, we launched an innovative, never-been-done-before voter registration
program that then-Clark County Registrar of Voters Katherine Ferguson threatened to sue us over to stop.
In
October 1995 – just before the Nevada GOP hosted the Western States Republican
Leadership Conference at the new MGM Grand, and after I moved up to executive
director of the Nevada GOP under then-Chairman John Mason - Nevada became a Republican-majority state for the
first time since Reconstruction.
In
March of 1996, Dan Burdish took my
job as executive director of the Nevada Republican Party and continued the
program with money raised by then-Nevada GOP Finance Chairman George Harris. By October of that year, Republicans
outnumbered Democrats by 4,211 voters for the ’96 election…a lead it maintained
for the duration of the 90s before Burdish, Harris and I all moved on from
party politics.
How’d
we do it?
As
the Joker said in The Dark Knight, “When you’re good at something, never do it
for free.”
We
take Visa and MasterCard.
SEN. ELBERT GUILLORY
For
those of you who missed Louisiana State Sen. Elbert Guillory at September’s First Friday Happy Hour in Las
Vegas, my old friend Star Parker has
a video of the Democrat-turned-Republican state legislator speaking at the CURE
Pastor's Policy Summit recently. In it,
Guillory speaks “about freedom and God in government -- something you never
hear from the liberal black establishment.”
RALSTON RETORTS!
In effort to bash conservative Sen. Barbara Cegavske, Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger, Jon Ralston, displays remarkable ignorance of Nevada’s ID cards! http://ralstonretorts.com/?p=62
Also, Ralston’s cup of sour grapes & whine was served
up yesterday by Lowden's "inferior" team of "clowns." http://ralstonretorts.com/?p=69
Finally,
Ralston “reported” today in his Morning
Flash that GOP candidate Vick Gill
will be running for the state senate in District 9 next year…which I reported
on in Silver State Confidential over
Talk
about Pony Express! Ralston’s “flash” is
more like a slow crawl.
THE BILBRAY FILES
Last
week, Emily Davis, Deputy Communications for the Congressional
Leadership Fund, called Democrat congressional candidate Erin
Bilbray-without-the-Kohn to task for ignoring the Keystone XL pipeline
issue (along with just about every other issue other than abortion)...
As you may have read in Ralston Reports, Erin Bilbray-Kohn is having trouble deciding what to say on policy issues. For example, her first draft on energy doesn’t even mention the Keystone XL pipeline, which reached its five-year delay anniversary last week. It’s not surprising she’s ducking the issue given her record of supporting liberal policies and a troubling pattern of not answering questions on key issues. A new report out this week shows how her fellow Democrats are helping ship money and jobs to the Middle East by blocking the Keystone pipeline. As reported in the DailyCaller, the continued delay of the Keystone pipeline means:- The U.S. will send up to $7.7 billion more to oil suppliers in the Middle East from 2013-2015.- Americans lose out on 42,000 jobs and $2.1 billion in earnings.- Our nation loses out on approximately 700,000 barrels a day in imported energy from Canada.
"Since career
Democrat operative Erin Bilbray-Kohn wants to vote in Congress, does she
support or oppose Keystone Pipeline jobs and energy?" Davis asked.
"Nevadans deserve to know the views of a candidate running to
represent them."
Indeed.
FIRST FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR
This
month’s First Friday Happy Hour is this Friday, October 4 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm
at the Blue Martini in Town Square on the south end of the Strip in Las Vegas.
Our
VIP guest-of-honor at tomorrow night's First Friday Happy Hour will be our 2014
Courage Under Fire award recipient, Amanda
Collins. If this courageous young
woman’s name is unfamiliar to you, click here and
read one of the many stories about being sexually assaulted in a UNR campus
garage and how she’s tried valiantly to change Nevada law so that her
experience isn’t visited upon other unarmed college students in the future.
