Morning Briefing
For August 15, 2013
1. The Obamacare Throwdown – Let’s Not Be Gutless Wonders
Let me be blunt. If
you are opposed to using the Continuing Resolution to de-fund Obamacare
because you are afraid that conservatives and the GOP might take the
blame in the media, then you are a political coward.
It’s as simple as that.
Now there’s a caveat here . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
2. The Importance of Virginia
Yesterday,
the AFL-CIO declared it was going all in in Virginia to get Terry
McAuliffe elected. The AFL-CIO has massive amounts of money and, should
McAuliffe win, as Jim Geraghty, I, and others have noted, the media and
liberal Republicans will claim conservatives cannot get elected.
Ken
Cuccinelli, as the Attorney General of Virginia, was the first State AG
to go to court opposing Obamacare. Ken has also been at the forefront
in the fight against Obama’s war on fossil fuels.
Ken
is the Republican candidate for Governor of Virginia in this year’s
November election and if he loses, it will energize and encourage Obama
and the Democrats to fight even harder against America’s energy sources,
claim validation for Obamacare, and disillusion and discourage
Republican leaders and candidates from continuing to fight. But, if Ken
wins, it will send a signal that voters reward principled conservatives
who fight. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
3. The people support defunding ObamaCare
A new Heritage Action poll finds broad support for defunding ObamaCare:
- Likely voters support defunding 57%-34%.
- Among those with strong opinions on either side, those who “strongly support” defunding outnumbered those who “strongly oppose” defunding by a 41%-22% margin, signifying much greater intensity among opponents of the law.
- Independents, support for defunding 57%-34%, exactly mirroring the result in the overall sample.
- A large majority, 77% favor either a slow down in implementation or an outright repeal.
- Just 42% of Democrats fully embrace ObamaCare, with 36% agreeing that it should be slowed down, and 17% favoring repeal.
- Only 5% of Republicans and 17% of Independents favor proceeding with ObamaCare fully and without changes.
The
poll was conducted on August 7-8, 2013, by Basswood Research in ten
Republican-leaning but not safe-Republican Congressional districts — six
presently held by Republicans and four by Democrats . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
4. No Way in Hell Will I Support Nancy Mace
People
keep asking me about Nancy Mace running against Lindsey Graham. At the
RedState Gathering, people wanted to know why she wasn’t on the agenda.
Well, by the time it became an issue, the agenda was full, but even had
it not been full I would not have asked her to speak.
I
have said for a while that conservatives eager to beat the
establishment need to use a greater degree of discernment when it comes
to candidates they put up. As far as Nancy Mace goes, I think tea party
activists need to discern some more and try harder.
Count me
out. The revisionist history going on about Nancy Mace’s record is a bit
too much for me and the actual history disqualifies her in my mind.
Nancy Mace has been making the rounds of conservative talk radio and
blogs lately with so many eager to beat Lindsey. One of the things she
is starting to get some heat over, and rightfully so, is her
relationship with Will Folks. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
5. Victory: “No Atheists in Foxholes” Article Reinstated on Chaplain’s Website
Angry
atheists bizarre arguments and incendiary tactics were once again
exposed and soundly defeated as a military chaplain’s blog post has been
reposted on a base website.
A few
weeks ago we told you about a military chaplain’s website posting that
was inappropriately censored and removed after the Military Religious
Freedom Foundation (MRFF) demanded it. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
6. The Gross Double Standard In Clowngate
While
Clowngate rages, St. Louis City Treasurer made a racially-charged,
offensive remark via Twitter about those who disagree with President
Obama.
Jones then spent working hours on Monday arguing with those who objected to the remark.
When
pressed by my staff about said remark, St. Louis City Mayor Francis
Slay’s office replied that he will not comment, other than to say that
Jones “is entitled to her opinion.”
Missouri’s
Lt. Governor Peter Kinder said today on my program that he was
“disappointed” in Jones’s remark and would “like to see an apology.” . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
