ROBERT HALL 07/16/2013 CONSERVATIVE

Review on Amazon for The Old Jarhead’s Journal
Robert A. Hall no doubt has Papa Hemingway as his muse, standing just over his left shoulder as he sits down to write. Hall gives it to you straight, tells you things you may not want, but need to hear. He does it without the flowery overlaying of wasted words meant to obfuscate and confuse. A steadfast Marine, an honest politician, and a man who loves his country deeply, Hall argues the conservative viewpoint as well as anyone writing today. If you can get through his brilliant essay "I'm Tired" without shedding a tear, or have chills running down your back, you have no business reading Mr. Hall's work. But if you love your country, if you're concerned about the direction we are currently moving toward, you can't do better than read Mr. Hall's assessment of where we are and what we need to do to correct course; to restore the America that once fulfilled the dreams of millions. So be good to yourself; rouse you spirit of citizenship and join the thousands of us who have benefited from reading about simple truths, the values of real leadership and the supremacy of leading a liberated life. God bless this fine man as he shows us how to live a life of worth.

Unemployment Isn't Going Anywhere Fast
Excerpt: The June unemployment report was released recently with little fanfare. The lack of inspired commentary isn't surprising. The new unemployment numbers are largely unchanged, reflecting yet another month of just enough economic activity to keep the country humming above negative growth levels but not enough to be considered a robust recovery. But the fact that we keep getting similar, limp labor market reports is interesting in and of itself, says Anthony Randazzo, director of economic research at the Reason Foundation. Consider the headline numbers: Official unemployment (U3) was unchanged at 7.6 percent from May to June.  However, the more accurate measure of unemployment (U6) that includes workers who have recently been dropped from the labor force actually increased dramatically from 13.8 percent to 14.3 percent. In relative terms, that is a movement not seen in many, many months. This increase is an indication that the jobs created and filled over the past few months are not the type of full-time jobs that are going to get the unemployed back on their feet.

Islamist-rebel infighting calls Syrian aid into question
Excerpt: Islamist militants with links to al-Qaida attacked Free Syrian Army supply depots in northwestern Syria over the weekend in a bid to seize weapons and equipment, underscoring a growing divide between moderate and jihadist rebel forces in their shared struggle to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The increasing tension calls into question President Barack Obama’s decision to send money and weapons to Syrian opposition groups, which are now openly fighting one another as well as Assad’s regime. (Gee, who could have seen this coming? Excluding those of us who aren’t brain-dead Washington Progressive Policy Makers, of course. ~Bob.)

Excerpt: All last year, all we heard about was the Republican's "War On Women"...the specific charge?  Not being willing to publicly fund serial abortions and spend taxpayer money on birth control pills.  No groping charges, no offensive Facebook photos of their penis sent to women ... just not willing to foot the bill for an overactive sex life. Then, Congressman Anthony Weiner was caught sending pics of his penis to unsuspecting women and had to resign his House seat.  This devastated liberals because Weiner was such a champion of liberal causes, made even more tragic because his spouse was best buddies with Hillary Rotten Clinton!  How could this champion of liberal women's causes be so bestial and insensitive?

Good column: George Zimmerman's - And America's - Missed Opportunity. By Andy Weddington
Excerpt: "Last Saturday evening, before the verdict was announced and in turn the public informed, I received an email from a friend who offered it was not looking good for Mr. Zimmerman; the deliberations were taking too long."

Excerpt: The February 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin might never have happened if school officials in Miami-Dade County had not instituted an unofficial policy of treating crimes as school disciplinary infractions. Revelations that emerged from an internal affairs investigation explain why Martin was not arrested when caught at school with stolen jewelry in October 2011 or with marijuana in February 2012. Instead, the teenager was suspended from school, the last time just days before he was shot dead by George Zimmerman.

Good column: You Are Not Trayvon Martin: His death wasn’t about race, guns, or your pet issue. It was about misjudgment and overreaction—exactly what we’re doing now to the verdict. By William Saletan
Excerpt: But that’s how Martin ended up dead. It’s how Zimmerman ended up with a bulletproof vest he might have to wear for the rest of his life. It’s how activists and the media embarrassed themselves with bogus reports. The problem at the core of this case wasn’t race or guns. The problem was assumption, misperception, and overreaction. And that cycle hasn’t ended with the verdict. It has escalated.

Is This Still America? The political intervention in the Zimmerman case is un-American. By Thomas Sowell
Excerpt: More important than the fate of George Zimmerman, however, is the fate of the American justice system and of the public’s faith in that system and in their country. People who have increasingly asked during the lawlessness of the Obama administration, “Is this still America?” may feel some measure of relief.

Excerpt: A witness posted on Facebook that she saw the gang of young men chasing the victim before they caught up to him and started kicking and beating him. That witness wrote that the black males were shouting “This is for Trayvon!” as they beat the man.  If Eric Holder is still looking around for a hate crime to prosecute, Baltimore offers one.

Photo of Zimmerman's great-grandfather raises questions about racial profiling
Excerpt: CNN analyst Mark NeJame pointed to a black-and-white picture of a family of three, including a dark-skinned man he claims was Zimmerman's great-grandfather.

Black Teens Beat WI Man, Stating 'This Is For Trayvon'
Excerpt: Simpson said that a young black couple helped him: “A guy came with his girlfriend and said, ‘What the hell are you guys doing? Leave this guy alone!’ He said, ‘Don’t worry’ and he held my wrist and he said, ‘As long as I’m here, you’ll be OK.’” (There will be no response from race baiters Obama, Holder, Jackson and Sharpton on this. But if white teens beat a black man saying “this is for Chris Cervini,” the roof would fall in. The black guy who came to the rescue should get some recognition. ~Bob.)

Friends: Teen shot to death on way to visit infant daughter
He’ll be famous, but only if the shooter turns out to be white. Unlikely in Chicago. ~Bob.

Gotta love the Arab Spring. ~Bob

Mexico captures leader of brutal Zetas cartel
Should say, “captured and shot.” The Zetas were formed as the military arm of another cartel, but decided to freelance, as ruthless people with guns often do. ~Bob.

Obama Opposed Eliminating Filibuster In 2005
Excerpt: “What they don't expect is for one party - be it Republican or Democrat - to change the rules in the middle of the game so that they can make all the decisions while the other party is told to sit down and keep quiet.  […] The American people want less partisanship in this town, but everyone in this chamber knows that the majority chooses to end the filibuster. If they choose to change the rules and put an end to Democratic debate, then the fighting and the bitterness and the gridlock will only get worse.”

Good column: Obama’s Authoritarians: Mouthing Sixties-style anti-Western slogans is the way to win the president’s heart. By Victor Davis Hanson
Excerpt: Yet left-wing brutes — the Castro brothers, Che Guevara, the Eastern European puppet regimes, an array of monsters in Africa, and, later, the Ortega bunch and Hugo Chávez — were usually given a pass from commensurate scrutiny. The reasoning apparently was twofold. One, bloodthirsty liberationists gained exemption by claiming that their absolutism was in service to “equality” and “the people.” Their supposedly noble ends justified their bloody means. Two, they were charmingly anti-American.

EU Redraws Israel Borders to 1949 Lines: For the first time, the EU formally forbids trade with bodies located beyond 1949 Armistice lines, including Golan.
Excerpt: The European Union has issued orders forbidding its member states from cooperating, transferring funds, giving scholarships or research grants to bodies in Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem , and even the Golan Heights, Haaretz wrote Tuesday. The new instruction, promulgated bt the European Commission, which is the operative arm of the EU, sets parameters for cooperation between the EU and its members states, on the one hand, and Israeli governmental and private elements on the other.

Excerpt: Of all the many changes that the Obama administration has enacted over the last five years, the least remarked upon are the strange changes in our vocabulary. To fathom the shifting meaning of words, here is a guide to the new Obama lexicon.

Excerpt: Ironically, the players most actively stirring up discontent are the government and media themselves.  Their message seems to be: don’t trust government, don’t trust state legislation or the prosecutors or law enforcement — even when all of the above are substantially no one else but the agitators themselves. With Obama in the White House, Eric Holder at the Justice Department, and Angela Corey the district attorney, and the media the Media, just who exactly perverted justice? Just who exactly is the Man that one should rise up against and fight?  Mark Steyn observed that the federal government, when so minded, can convict a ham sandwich: “Today at the federal level there is a conviction rate of over 90 percent.”

The American Deep State. By Daniel Greenfield
Excerpt: The fabled military-industrial complex was a dimwitted descendant of the WW1 era Socialist notion that wars were the product of industrialists and without them, the working peoples of every country would naturally get along.  Then came WW2, which was fought between a Communist empire, a National Socialist oligarchy, a Socialist American government and a Britain that would kick out Churchill as soon as the war was over and swap him out for Labour and the Socialist dream. None of these Socialist or aspiring Socialist systems could get along.

Deconstructing Islamophobia. By Baron Bodissey
Excerpt: Consider the Muslims who in the name of Allah carried out the first WTC bombing in 1993, the bombing of theUSS Cole in 2000, the 9/11/2001 terror attacks, the 2002 Bali bombings, the 2004 Madrid bombing, the 7/7/2005 Tube and bus bombings, the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, the 2009 Fort Hood terror attack, and the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Then consider the families of the victims of these attacks and the people who witnessed them. Are they “Islamophobic” because they hate and fear the terrorists and the organizations that perpetrated these atrocities?

Run Guillory against Landrieu for Lousiana Senate seat. By Star Parker
Excerpt: Subsequently, Guillory explained why he, a black Democrat, would become a Republican in a video that went viral, and he continues to deliver his compelling message with such power and clarity that I cannot see how he can be ignored as a leader who should rise to national prominence. This could have practical implications for the Louisiana Senate race in 2014, where Republicans are still in search for a candidate to run against incumbent Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu.

Callous: the verdict on Britain's National Health Service care for the dying. By Laura Donnelly
Excerpt: Too many patients have been left facing the desperate and “terrifying prospect” of spending their final hours thirsty, with nurses even shouting at families who tried to give their loved ones water, the review led by Baroness Julia Neuberger found. A separate report by Prof Sir Bruce Keogh, the medical director for NHS England, will expose a history of failings at 14 hospital trusts with high death rates. One Tory MP claims Labour ministers received more than 1,500 alerts over the safety of care at those hospitals.

Unions Continue to Pile On Against Obamacare: We Have a Problem. By Katie Pavlich
Excerpt: They were for it before they were against it and now, some of the country's most powerful union leaders are expressing their full disapproval of Obamacare: 'The leaders of three major U.S. unions, including the highly influential Teamsters, have sent a scathing open letter to Democratic leaders in Congress, warning that unless changes are made, President Obama’s health care reform plan will “destroy the foundation of the 40 hour work week that is the backbone of the American middle class.”'
