PAUL RAISES DOUGH FOR NEVADA GOP

(Kristen Muth) - U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) addressed an exclusive gathering of influential Republican donors at a private meet-and-greet at the Golden Nugget hotel in Las Vegas on Saturday.  Guests paid from $250 to $1,000 dollars each to meet and have their photo taken with the expected 2016 GOP Presidential candidate.

In brief remarks that began about 3:15 pm, Paul declared his opposition to any attempt by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) to eliminate the filibuster, and said that President Obama “is losing his moral authority to lead the nation.”

Paul also said he is “for immigration reform” because having 11 million people here illegally clearly shows the current system is broken.  He also maintained the U.S. has to expand legal immigration to reduce illegal immigration, and provide more work visas, but only after the border is secure as declared by Congress, not the President.

Paul added that “Republicans absolutely have to change the way they talk about immigrants.”

The private reception was hosted by Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald, Nevada Republican National Committeeman James Smack, and Nevada Republican National Committeewoman Diana Orrock.

Also in attendance were several elected officials, including Rep. Joe Heck (R-NV), Assemblywoman Michele Fiore (R-Las Vegas), Assemblyman Jim Wheeler (R- Douglas County) and Assemblyman John Ellison (R- Elko).

Also on hand were Alan Stock of KDWN 702 AM and Niger Innes of CORE (Congress of Racial Equality), along with Clark County GOP Chairman Cindy Lake and Nye County GOP Chairman Bill Carns.

Other prominent Republican donors and activists in attendance included Nevada GOP Finance Chairman Dan Schwartz, former Nevada GOP Executive Director Dan Burdish (my uncle!), Larry Scheffler of Las Vegas Color Graphics, Rob Tyree, Jesse Law, Jordan Ross, Victoria Seaman, Karl Bunce, Kamau Bakari, Steve Donahue, and John Hill.

After the private photo op/reception, Paul went downstairs to address a gathering of some 200 grassroots activists at a public “Stand with Rand” rally, also sponsored by the Nevada Republican Party, before heading over to Planet Hollywood to deliver a keynote address at FreedomFest.

(This is my 13-year-old home-educated daughter Kristen’s first-ever news report.  Since this was her first time out of the gate and obviously didn’t know all the players in the room, I helped her considerably on this one.  But she’s now well on her way to becoming a professional irritator of liberals!)

THE ESTABLISHMENT’S WORST NIGHTMARE

Riddle me this Batman:

What if moderate Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval hand-picks and anoints an entire slate of moderate Gumby Republicans to run for the five other constitutional offices – lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and controller – thereby locking up all the establishment special interest money.

That would likely scare and discourage a lot of credible, viable alternative CONSERVATIVE candidates from running…as it already has with the anointment of Mark Hutchison as Sandoval’s LG running mate.

But what if…

What if a team of experienced, qualified, viable and credible candidates came together to counter the hand-picked moderate Sandoval slate even though they wouldn’t have as much money as Sandoval…

And what if the Republican Party adopted a policy of pre-primary endorsements for the next election cycle…

Can you image the butt-kissing and promise-making the establishment slate would have to do with Central Committee members to avoid being embarrassed by not being endorsed by their own party?

Why you might even see Sandoval show up for next year’s Lincoln-Reagan Dinner in Clark County!

But what if…

What if the official Republican Party members on the Central Committee instead voted to endorse the conservative alternative slate over Sandoval’s moderate anointment slate?

Do you think such an official endorsement might affect the votes of a large number of Republican PRIMARY voters despite the conservative slate not having as much money as the establishment slate?

And do you think maybe that’s why the establishment is working so hard to kick the conservatives out of party leadership and instead install their own hand-picked puppets who oppose pre-primary party endorsements?

MYERS’ DISSES STOCK

Laura Myers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote about the Clark County GOP chairman’s race brouhaha on Monday without so much as mentioning the original source of much in her story, conservative talk-show host Alan Stock, while quoting the terminally-clueless Cathie Lynn Gisi-Profant-Upshaw-Windham-Otts-Milar.

For example, Myers wrote…

“McKeon, who is the son of U.S. Rep. Buck McKeon, R-Calif., said he doesn’t want to work with (opponent Cindy) Lake if he is elected chairman because he sees her as a disruptive force. Lake has said she would work with McKeon, however.”

McKeon said that on Stock’s show during an on-air debate between McKeon and Lake.  Yet no mention of Stock in Myers’ story.

And this…

“During a nasty custody battle for their two boys, Monica McKeon accused McKeon of abusing her, including forcing her to have sex. She said he was abusive to their sons as well. She got a temporary restraining order against McKeon that was renewed several times in California, where the couple lived at the time.  McKeon denied the accusations, noting that his ex-wife never filed a police report documenting any abuse and that he was never arrested on such allegations.”

Again, the allegations and McKeon’s denial were brought up and addressed on Stock’s show, yet no mention of Stock in Myers’ story.

Can you imagine if Myers wrote a story in the RJ and Stock talked about it on the air without mentioning HER name, as if HE’D broken the story instead of her?  She’d scream bloody murder.

THE SLATES

For those not on the Clark County Republican Central Committee, here are the two slates of candidates that will be voted on Wednesday night at the South Point Resort in Las Vegas.

Lake Slate:

Chair: Cindy Lake
Vice-Chair: Steve Esh
Secretary: Megan Heryet
Political Director: Kelly Hurst
Precinct Director: George Hicks
Coalitions Director: Vicki Dooling
Treasurer: Rob Tyree

McKeon Slate:

Dave McKeon: Chairman
Mo Karas: Vice-Chairman
Kathryn “Kathy” Njus: Secretary
Nick Phillips: Political Director
Melody Howard: Precinct Director
Rick Houghtelling: Community Relations Director
Matt Passalacqua: Treasurer

With one exception, I could support any of these candidates…and wish all but one good luck Wednesday night.

TUNE IN OR TUNA FISH

Our friend Ron Futrell – famous Bill Maher heckler – will be subbing for conservative talk-show host Kevin Wall tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon on KXNT AM 840 and FM 100.5 in Las Vegas.  And he’s invited me in to chat from 4-5 pm about the state constitutional anointment process that’s underway, as well as the bitter civil war election that’ll take place later in the evening.
