Shoots it Off with a Howitzer!
I'm on my way out the door for lunch with former Assemblyman Ed Goedhart, but before leaving I just wanted to give everyone a heads up...
"Dave from California" McKeon - the congressman's son who's running to "save" the Clark County Republican Party from the principled leaders currently in charge, went on the Alan Stock Show this morning to respond to allegations of domestic violence made by his ex-wife.
And proceeded to commit political-suicide-by-conservative-talkshow-host!
Yes, it was THAT bad.
Turns out, the allegations against him are true...at least according to the court. Oh, and to McKeon...sort of.
Indeed, while McKeon admitted that the court found him guilty of spousal battery, he stills says the accusations weren't true and he just admitted to them to get the divorce proceedings over with and because he didn't have a good attorney.
Seriously? Seriously.
We also discovered for the first time in the interview that the man who would be chairman has also filed for bankruptcy and has had multiple tax liens filed against him.
Again, these aren't just allegations by political opponents; McKeon admitted to them on the air.
And it's not so much that he's had these problems in the past; many of us have. The problem is they are public record and were assuredly going to be made public once McKeon decided to run for a public office.
Why didn't he see all of this coming and address it BEFORE his opponents released it? That's just political stupidity. What, did he sleep during the entire Clinton presidency?
But none of that was even the worst part of the 90-minute interview - which Stock told McKeon would be about the domestic violence allegations, which was about the domestic violence allegations and which McKeon agreed to appear to discuss the domestic violence allegations.
Nevertheless, the man who believes he can save Clark County Republicans from political ineptitude devoted the final 10 minutes or so of the show accusing the highly-respected #1 conservative talk-show host in Clark County of...setting him up!
Oh, yeah...and he invoked my name as a co-conspirator in the "set-up."
Game on.
You can read more about how the interview went from my Twitter feed at https://twitter.com/ChuckMuth. And I absolutely will have more to write and say on this over the next few days in Silver State Confidential.
Look, I've tried to be fair and open-minded about this guy even though my impression has always been that he's a bit smarmy. But now I believe not only isn't he ready for prime-time, but he might actually have a screw loose.
As I wrote to Silver State Confidential subscribers this morning after the show...
"This guy shouldn’t be allowed to play Captain Underpants at the playground let alone serve as party chairman!"
If Dave McKeon thinks he can waltz into town, pull the wool over my eyes and unfairly attack the integrity of Alan Stock, in the immortal words of Victor Maitland in Beverly Hills Cop, "it is painfully obvious you haven't the slightest (freaking) idea who you're dealing with."
Or as Kurt Russell put it in Tombstone, "You called down the thunder, well now you've got it!"
