Conservative American,
In the Virginia Ratifying Convention of 1778, George Mason identified one of Great Britain's tactics to control the colonists: arms control.
Mason said:
"Forty years ago, when the resolution of enslaving America was formed in Great Britain, the British Parliament was advised by an artful man, who was governor of Pennsylvania, to disarm the people; that it was the best and most effectual way to enslave them; but that they should not do it openly, but weaken them, and let them sink gradually ..."
Our founders knew well that big government always prefers to rule by disarmament, because an unarmed populace - like Mason rightly noted - is an "enslaved" one.
In addition to providing specifications for an army to be raised for the defense of the States' freedom (see: Article I, Section 8, Clause 12); the Second Amendment to the Constitution established "the right to keep and bear arms." Thus, the Constitutional provision for Congress to create Armed Forces is treated as separate from the individual's right to hold his own arms. In other words, the Second Amendment was not adopted to establish rights for an army; no, it was adopted to codify the natural, individual right to self-defense and as a block against tyranny.
On January 16, Barack Obama made a declaration in front of the nation in opposition to this basic, constitutional right.
His nearly thirty-minute address on "curbing gun violence" was an outright assault on the Second Amendment.
Despite his oath of office - which he recently recited for a second time - where he placed his hand on the Bible and proclaimed that he will, to the best of his ability, "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" - Obama has worked against the Constitution in the name of defending it.
Though many of his executive actions urged Congress to take action - regardless of the fact the not one of the twenty-three are in the proper role of the general government - Barack Obama has stood against the People's right to keep and bear arms.
Considering this fact, we must urge the House of Representatives to file articles of impeachment against Barack Obama for standing in opposition to the Second Amendment, and the Constitution itself, by accomplishing (via Presidential Memoranda) and promoting (via executive action) national gun-control.
The Congress must exercise their power against Barack Obama's January 16 attack against the Second Amendment!

Calls for Barack Obama's impeachment are alive in the House of Representatives.
Recently, two outspoken GOP lawmakers have come out in opposition to the President's unconstitutional, anti-gun executive actions.
In addition to Texas Representative Steve Stockman - the first to member of Congress to support impeachment - a second voice has arisen: Representative Trey Radel of Florida.
Responding to Obama's mass of executive actions last Wednesday, Radel said:
"Before Congress has even had a chance to discuss and debate the laws of the land and be the voice for the American people, the President has once again demonstrated his disregard for the Constitution by bypassing lawmakers. In true bipartisan form, I ask: Democrats, what would you do if a Republican President began overstepping his or her powers and trampling on your rights? Executive orders must stop and the debate needs to begin."
"No one man or woman, Republican or Democrat," the Florida Rep. continued, "should dictate the laws of the land. Let's allow Congress to do what the American people elected us to do - Govern as a body, with checks and balances, representing all Americans."
Radel is right. The Congress is the only branch vested with the power to legislate - not the president! The fact that Obama sidestepped Congress to enact measures enhancing federal gun-control programs is an outrage. Every Congressman should be demanding action on this - they should never cede any of their power to anyone else, or allow anyone to so easily usurp their role as the only legislative body in Washington!
"We have completely lost our checks and balances in this country, the Congress needs to hold the president accountable for the decisions that he's making right now, and that why again, I would say that all options should be on the table." - Rep. Trey Radel
Right now two Congressmen are committed to taking the right action, agreeing that "nothing is off the table" in regards to fighting Obama and his newly-made anti-gun executive actions.
Other Congressmen must follow suit, but they likely aren't going unless they are told to.
Yes, We The People must demand our elected servants to do the right thing and move to convict Obama for his law-breaking!

Executive Orders have been long used by presidents of both parties to accomplish "fast-track" legislation and bypass the Congress. Such instances should never be supported, not even in the gravest of situations. Allowing our already overgrown executive to grow in times of crises is never a wise move for freedom. As the government grows, the individual shrinks.
But that is exactly what happened last week.
On January 16, Barack Obama made his biggest push for gun-control yet - twenty-three executive actions worth!
That's right, after delivering a speech on his plan to curb "gun violence" - in which he urged Congress to pass legislation to ban so-called assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, limit ammunition access, among other things - Obama signed a litany of actions, setting into motion his plan to further dismantle the Second Amendment.
Included in his nearly two-dozen actions were three pieces of presidential memoranda:
Executive Action 1: Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
Executive Action 9: Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
Executive Action 14: Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
Executive Action 9: Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
Executive Action 14: Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
Not only will the enforcement of these three orders cost the taxpayers dearly, all of them are flat-out unconstitutional.

In his address, Obama made it clear that wanted "universal background checks" in place for future gun-purchases. Let's ask this question: What role does the President have in intra-state commerce? None. While the Congress is vested with constitutional power to legislate issues that relate to interstate commerce, the House and Senate have nopower to legislate what a state does with commerce within its own borders without amending the Constitution to give them that authority. This is to say that the Executive, then, only has power to enforce laws that deal with commerce between the states, not commerce within states in particular. The Tenth Amendment reserves all non-enumerated powers that are not prohibited by the Constitution to the states, not the federal government.
Further, the memorandum that effectively establishes a national gun-registry is also unconstitutional. With what power can the president require guns to be registered in all of the fifty states? That Obama wishes to use his station to legislate what Congress has not is simply an abuse of power and must be rejected.
As far as the presidential order calling the CDC to research the causes and prevention of gun violence: without the House, all of the needed funds are unauthorized. Yes, Article I, Section 9, Clause 7 - the "power of the purse" clause - prevents any part of the federal government from spending a single penny without legal appropriations, which must always originate in the House. Presidential orders such as this - which do not consult Congress' lower chamber, but require vast amounts of funds - violate the "power of the purse" clause, and are, therefore, unlawful. (In fact, under theAntideficiency Act any federal "officer" or "employee" of the government, the president qualifying, can be imprisoned and removed for violating the "power of the purse.")
These stated: the Congress must take action and oppose Barack Obama's January 16 executive efforts! Obama's anti-Second Amendment executive usurpations must not go unchecked!

Texas Representative Steve Stockman has already committed to lead the charge against Obama's assault on the Second Amendment; in fact, Rep. Stockman was the first member of Congress to threat bringing forth articles of impeachment.
In a January 14 statement he said,
"I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment."
"The President's actions are an existential threat to this nation. The right of the people to keep and bear arms is what has kept this nation free and secure for over 200 years. The very purpose of the Second Amendment is to stop the government from disallowing people the means to defend themselves against tyranny. Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible."

Any proposal to abuse executive power and infringe upon gun rights must be repelled with the stiffest legislative force possible."
And Stockman is still committed to taking such measures. Shortly after Obama's January 16th address, Stockman published a response which stated that he is still willing to speak with his colleagues to file articles of impeachment in the event their other efforts to block Obama's orders fail.
Former Attorney General Ed Meese also welcomed the idea of Congress pushing for impeachment. He told one new source that if Obama "has really tried to override the Constitution itself ... it would be up to them to determine what action they should take - and perhaps even to the point of impeachment." Meese then added, "[I]ndeed, if he tried to override the Second Amendment in any way, I believe it would be an impeachable offense."

The fact is, as we have already displayed, Obama has overridden the Constitution through his king-like actions on January 16. Obama's anti-Second Amendment executive orders that would establish background checks, a de-facto gun-registry, and illegally-funded CDC studies must be opposed by Congress.
In addition to rejecting the president's orders themselves - either by a 2/3 majority vote in both chambers or by introducing legislation that would interfere with them - the Congress, starting in the House, must also file articles of impeachment against Obama himself.
Already Congressmen Stockman and Radel have committed to take action against the President, and there are likely many more that could be persuaded to do the same.
That's why we must take action and demand that lawmakers impeach Obama for his unconstitutional executive memorandums!
