The Homestead: Keeping Texas Texan With 53 days of session left, it’s safe to say that we’re truly in the thick of things.
If you’re tuned into the headlines, you may find yourself frustrated with the direction our country is going — at least, according to the media.
Take heart. This is Texas’s moment.
Amidst national headlines telling us that “Action Civics” is sweeping our nation’s K-12 schools, lockdowns in parts of the country— and world — continue, and, as a surprise to no one, a complete lack of transparency from leadership in Washington, Texas is moving legislation that sends a very different message.
It seems many of my colleagues here at the Foundation have taken up residence under the pink dome — testifying well past midnight on an almost daily basis — but it’s WORKING.
I wanted to share a few wins that we’ve seen over the last week to give you a dose of inspiration.
For starters, for the first time in my lifetime, conservatives are leading on health care reform. Speaker Dade Phelan and the House put forth the “Healthy Families, Healthy Texas” plan which includes bills that would lower costs, improve health care outcomes, put patients in charge of health care decisions, and make improvements to Medicaid. Second, a Conservative Texas Budget passed unanimously out of the Senate Finance Committee AND the full Senate.
As we enter the home stretch of the 87th legislative session, we are hopeful that many of our top 10 legislative priorities will be realized. If you’re interested in a specific policy area, consider joining one of our campaign newsletters for legislative updates and action items. You can click here to check out our campaign options, or hit reply and our communications team will get you plugged in.
Texas, we were made for such a time as this.
Thank you for joining in this fight to Keep Texas Texan.
For Liberty, I hope you'll share this weekly note with friends and family. |
