This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio On Monday, I toured Fresco Foods, Inc., a family-owned small business in Tampa, Florida that started creating healthy prepackaged meals in 2014. I named Fresco Foods the U.S. Senate Small Business of the Week in September 2020. Even during the worst of the pandemic, Fresco was able to keep all 120 of their employees paid because they obtained a forgivable Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan. Read more here. On Wednesday, I spoke at the Naples Chamber of Commerce and visited the historic Edison Ford Winter Estate in Fort Myers to discuss the successful efforts of the forgivable Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans in assisting the estate during the pandemic. On Monday, I sent a letter to Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred asking him if he will relinquish his personal membership at Georgia’s Augusta National Golf Club, after Manfred announced the MLB would move its All Star Game and Amateur Draft out of the state because of its revised election laws. On Monday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I urged U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to work with the government of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to ensure preparedness for any possible exploratory drilling in the Bahamian waters. Read more here. On Wednesday, Senator Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and I, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, led a bipartisan group of Senators in urging President Joe Biden to include at least $3 billion in his Fiscal Year 2022 budget request to Congress for the adoption of 5G alternatives to Chinese-made equipment. On Wednesday, Senators Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Pat Toomey (R-PA), Todd Young (R-IN), and I sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging the administration to “reset its approach” toward Iran following news that the United States may relinquish existing sanctions leverage over the Iranian regime in exchange for a return to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. On Thursday, I sent a letter to Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Roger Wicker (R-MS), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, requesting that they consider the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021, which I recently reintroduced to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the country. On Thursday, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and I, along with 16 Republican colleagues, sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in response to President Joe Biden’s plan to send a reported $75 million in general economic support payments from the United States Agency for International Development and the U.S. State Department into territories controlled by the Palestinian Authority and the Iran-backed terrorist group Hamas.
