A new Iowa Senate poll has conservative Joni Ernst trailing her liberal opponent Rep. Bruce Braley by 5% points.

The Loras College Poll has Braley with 45.3% and Joni Ernst at 40.5%. Fourteen percent of likely voters remain undecided.

An earlier Loras College Poll, conducted immediately after the GOP primary, had Joni Ernst leading Braley, 48% to 41.7%.

Ever since she won her primary, Joni has faced an onslaught of sleazy negative attacks from Harry Reid and his liberal cronies.

The most recent smear -- financed by liberal hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer -- attacks Joni's service to our country as a combat veteran in Iraq.

In a mailer, here's what the attack said:

"Joni Ernst is putting her big oil backers ahead of national security."

"American troops have spent years fighting terrorists overseas," the mailer reads. "But politicians like Joni Ernst are undercutting that battle here at home."

Tom Steyer has vowed to spend upwards of $50 million to save the Democrats in 2014.

A large chunk of that money will be dropped on Joni Ernst in Iowa.

The truth is that Joni Ernst is a mom, soldier, and a proven conservative leader who’s got the ‘guts’ to take-on Obama and the Washington establishment.

When she wins, she’ll stand with Ted Cruz and Mike Lee to repeal Obamacare and stop Obama’s amnesty.

In fact, Joni Ernst has already served our country bravely as a company commander in Operation Iraqi Freedom. She now serves as a Lt. Colonel in the Iowa National Guard.

In the U.S. Senate, she’ll back our troops and veterans ‘to the max’.

Rep. Bruce Braley — her extremely liberal opponent — is a true-blue bottom-of-the-barrel Obama Democrat.
