After
a week of the Democrat government “shutdown”, it’s enlightening to look
at some of the things the Obama administration has been doing since
their partial government “shut down”. The administration didn’t think
that a partial government shutdown would cause enough pain, so they’ve
gone on the attack against private citizens and businesses.
Their
actions have made it very clear why the Democrats wanted to force this
“crisis” on the nation, despite the best efforts of Republicans to make
sure that the government was fully funded by the October 1 deadline. The
goal has been to inflict maximum pain on Americans, and then blame
Republicans for the pain. Here are a few examples of Obama’s childish
actions since the Senate Democrats have refused to pass a spending bill:
· In North Carolina, despite public claims that it is interested in creating jobs in America, the Obama administration has directed the closure of private businesses along the Blue Ridge Parkway, including the Pisgah Inn, which employs 100 people. When owner Bruce O’Connell defied the order to close his business, park service patrol cars were dispatched to enforce the closure.
· When
the Obama administration barricaded the World War II Memorial in
Washington DC, an unprecedented action in any former “shutdown”, Senator
Dean Heller, along with Congressmen Joe Heck and Mark Amodei, were on
hand to open the barricades and make sure the veterans could see their
memorial. Closing the memorial was a senseless thing to do –
it cost more to put up the barricades than it would have to just leave
it open. Even Democrat congressman Steven Horsford could see that - he
decided to stand with the grown ups and joined his colleagues to make
sure our veterans had access.
· Right here in Nevada, Obama has refused to allow homeowners at Lake Mead to occupy their own homes, even though they were not required to vacate during the three week Clinton administration shutdown in 1996.
· Despite the fact that less than 20% of the government is actually shut down, the Obama Administration felt the need to take the Amber Alert website offline for the first week of the shutdown, although other government websites such as Michelle Obama’s LetsMove.gov remained up and running. After conservatives pointed out that the dollars spent on barricading memorials or trying to close the ocean
would be better spent on helping to find missing children, the website
was turned back on, proving that the administration will listen to
reason if we speak up.
These are just a few examples of the childish and unnecessary actions being taken by an administration that never lets a good crisis go to waste – even if the “crisis” is self-inflicted.
And
there’s no doubt that it’s the Democrats that have caused this
“crisis”. The House of Representatives did its job – multiple times – by
sending spending bills to the Senate for approval. Every time, the
Senate refused to take action. Since the Democrats shut down part of the
government on October 1, House Republicans have continued to send bills
to the Senate to fund all or part of the government, but the
Senate still refuses to act, continuing to believe that Democrats are
scoring political points by hurting their fellow Americans.
Democrats
claim that House Republicans are being unreasonable, but it is the
Republicans that passed bills to fund the government. All that they asked in return was a for a fair implementation of Obamacare,
including offering the same consideration to average Americans as
businesses, unions, and Congress themselves has received. As the grown
ups in the room, House Republicans want to make sure that the fiscal
problems in Obamacare are worked out for everyone, not just for the
political friends of the Obama administration.
Nevada
Republicans call on the Democrats to recognize that their refusal to
fund the government is damaging ordinary Americans, and that vindictive
and unnecessary policies aren’t in anyone’s best interest. Americans
want fiscal responsibility, and they want fairness. Unfortunately, it
seems like Democrats aren’t interested in either one.
