I Didn’t Say what I Said

After calling Republican Rep. Joe Heck “un-American” in her first extensive interview since announcing her campaign last July, liberal Nevada Democrat congressional candidate Erin Bilbray-Kohn issued a statement yesterday saying she didn’t say what she said.

First and for the record…

• Joe Heck has been an Army Reservist since 1991
• Currently a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Heck has received over a dozen awards and distinctions for his service
• Heck has been called to active duty 3 times, including a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom

So the firestorm over calling this honorable military veteran “un-American” was as fast-and-furious as it should have been expected. And liberal Bilbray-Kohn, a professional spin doctor who trains candidates how to spin their message, first tried to pooh-pooh her outrageous accusation by tweeting…

“Making sure that everyone is included and wants to participate in the political process is as American as apple pie.”

But that was lame.  Really lame.  So the campaign had to ratchet up its spin machine to overdrive.

Now, we all know that Jon Ralston, Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger, is kind of a dick…but his interview with Bilbray-Kohn was fair and raised legitimate questions.  He did not go easy on the liberal Nevada Democrat, but he sure didn’t hit her with any sneaky “gotcha” questions that a professional spin doctor shouldn’t have been able to handle.

A real apology.  Not one of those classic DC “If I offended anyone…” apologies.  And if she can’t bring herself to admit she was wrong, she should withdraw from the race for Nevada’s 3^rd congressional district seat.
