Random Thoughts for October,
2013
Robert A. Hall
Get the collection! My
“Random Thoughts” from 2008 through July, 2013 are now collected in this book: The Old Jarhead's Journal: Random Thoughts on Life, Liberty, and Leadership
by Robert A. Hall
The Old Jarhead’s
Journal is a collection of Random Thoughts on politics and life and
Conservative Political Essays, mostly published on the author’s blog, including
the essay “I’m Tired” which went viral on the Internet in 2009, “The Hall
Platform,” “This I Believe,” and “Why I’m a Republican.” While they will be of
interest to conservative thinkers, they are collected here in book form as a
service to readers who wish to give a copy to a favorite liberal and watch his
or her head explode. All royalties are
donated to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
Putin took Obama’s flexibility promise at face value, and
has tied him in knots over Syria.
If we were supposed to bomb Syria
to save Obama’s credibility, shouldn’t we have bombed Benghazi, Mexico
and the IRS as well?
Obama has reportedly asked OJ to
help him find the person who really drew the Red Line on Syria.
Do you really think, if the Syrian
rebels win and get control of the nerve gas, they won’t use it? Against us?
The situation in Syria reminds me of the Eastern
Front in WWII, with Nazis and Communists slaughtering each other. One could be
happy cheering for both sides, if it wasn’t for the civilians, especially kids,
caught in the crossfire.
Was it just last year that Obama
and the Democrats ridiculed Romney for saying Russia
was our major geopolitical foe and claimed Romney wanted war with Syria?
Listening to the local news as I
dressed for work, hoping for a weather report, I heard a commentator ask, “What
could be the reason behind the senseless violence at the mall in Kenya?”
Gee, the murderers asked the people if they were Muslim and if they could
recite a Muslim prayer, they let them go, but murdered the Christians. So I’m guessing, you know, workplace
violence.
Republicans were not allowed to speak at the commemoration
of Martin Luther King’s “Dream Speech.” So if King, Lincoln or Eisenhower, who
sent troops to desegregate Little Rock
schools, had showed up, they would have been gagged. As was the only black US Senator and
only black Supreme Court justice, since they were not invited.
We’ve come along way. Now the government only discriminates against
blacks if they are Republicans.
Vote fraud is voter suppression.
Few things in life are as ephemeral as
gratitude.
Almost every day you are given an opportunity to keep your
mouth shut and avoid making someone feel bad.
Books often talk about a prisoner living under a death
sentence. We all live under a death sentence; we just don’t know the date. The
older you get, the sooner it will be.
Too many people can’t seem to enjoy their music unless the
volume is set to “stun.”
If the Republicans vote to attack Syria, and it turns out bad, they
can always claim later that Obama lied about WMDs. After they voted for the Iraq war, it
worked for Democrats against Bush, who took out the last guy to murder
thousands people with nerve gas.
I assume it’s only a matter of time until Muslims and
atheists insist that the military drop decorations for heroism like the Navy
Cross, because the use of “cross” is offensive.
I see that Cook County Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky
(D-Trotsky) has attacked McDonalds. Big Mac for dinner tonight!
Left Wing Progressives used to hate the government and
government power—until they became the government. The story of history.
Any Democrat who was against war with Syria is a racist! Well, that’s
what they call us if we dare to disagree with Obama.
The only good thing about amnesty is we’ll be able to break
the unions with a lot of new scab immigrant workers.
I don’t want Obama to create jobs. I just want him to stop pushing
policies that block job creation in the private sector.
Contrary to popular belief, I am not desperate to find out
on Twitter what you had for lunch or where you ate it.
Because someone votes against my position doesn’t make him
or her a RINO, an idiot, a coward, or a crook. And voting my way doesn’t mean
they are not one.
You call me a fascist like it’s a bad thing… Fascists believed in state control of the economy, with
private ownership, but to serve the government, rather like many folks in government
today.
When Liberal kids pray, I assume they say, “Please bless
mommy and daddy and grandma and my brother and my cat, and please punish George
Bush for all the bad things he does to continue screwing up our country.”
It’s “your body, your choice” if you want to abort your
child, but not if you want to open your mouth and say something they don’t like
and thus label “hate speech.”
There are a lot of companies advertising on TV offering to
help people with things like debt that I suspect are really preying on people.
Beware.
Local TV news reported that a man’s body was found in the
truck of his car in Indiana,
but that, “There was no evidence of a crime at this time.” What’s the
alternative theory—that he felt poorly and crawled in the trunk to take a nap?
Obama’s pivot to jobs was just to wave goodbye.
I notice book blurbs often say, “Now a major motion
picture.” Don’t books ever get made into minor motion pictures?
Liberal outrage is selective. Gassing Syrian kids? We must
act. Blowing them apart with shells? The Syrian rebels reportedly dismembering
an Alawite girl with a saw while she was alive? Gassing Kurdish kids in Iraq?
Saddam’s son ordering local schools to send him pretty young Shi’a girls to be
raped? Not so much.
Putin took exception at America claiming to be exceptional.
But we must admit that Russia
is also exceptional. Exceptionally corrupt. Exceptionally repressive. And, for
its abundance of natural resources, exceptionally poor. All a legacy of
communism and the lack of property rights, political rights and the rule of
law.
Progressives cannot stand for a country or a people to be
prosperous, long term. They always demand to eat the seed corn in the name of
“social justice.”
If you overuse a word you like, you will wear it out just as
you’d wear out shoes if you wore them every day.
Recently my boss said we should do nothing about a
particular problem. I replied that doing nothing was among my best skill sets.
Speaking from experience, legislators are like cattle. Let
there be a crisis or bad event, and a couple of guys waving their hats and
firing their revolvers in the air can stampede the herd, which will do a lot of
damage before it runs out of steam.
If you have nothing—home, family,
church, country—that you are willing to fight and perhaps die for, someone who
is will eventually take them from you.
President Barack Obama’s Summer
Vacation: Playing golf with rich friends on Martha’s
Vineyard. Senator Rand Paul’s summer vacation: Doing pro bono eye
surgery for the poor. Because, you know, only Democrats care about the poor.
What do you get when you send a
moron to college? A college educated moron. (Similar saying in the USMC about
schools.)
Recently had a financial
windfall. ComEd in Illinois
sent me a refund check. For ten cents…
There was a lot of hype over
something called “the new iPhone.” Don’t know why I’d be interested. My current
cell phone makes calls just fine.
I carry an AR-15 with me almost everywhere. Okay, it’s
really a pocket knife, but to liberals and the media, anything can apparently
be an AR-15.
Using Cruise Control in heavy traffic is easy. You just get
in the center lane, set it at the speed limit, and everything will go around
you.
I told my wife she was basically a bag lady, but instead of
a bag, she had a house to hold more stuff. She laughed.
Two rules for coping with boys. 1. Never fully trust them
until they are out of adolescence. 2. Many never get out of
adolescence.
Some people complain more about a stuffy nose than others do
about a terminal illness.
MSNBC: All the news that we can edit to fit our few viewers’
biases.
You think Obama would have told Kenya, his father’s country that
“the War on Terror” is over. Might have saved them a lot of trouble recently.
So the Washington Navy Yard shooter takes Biden’s advice,
buys a shotgun instead of an AR-15, passes a background check and is the left
happy? Noooo.
I think people say “gentle reminder” in emails because
“smack in the head to get your attention” sounds too harsh.
We were in a small group and one friend had a new smart
phone. If you mentioned football, or the weather or a restaurant, he had to
whip it out and try to find it on line. “He’s like a baby that just discovered
his boy parts,” I said.
