The Fix is In
By: Daniel Horowitz
At 2:30 in the morning on April 17, the Gang of bipartisan hustlers foisted upon us an 844-page monstrosity to destroy the Republic and Republican Party. Now that we completely eviscerated and discredited this heaping pile, Schumer’s staff has written a totally new 1,190-page bill that supposedly incorporates the provisions that he has written for Corker and Hoeven.
Yet, Reid plans to schedule a cloture vote on this new heaping pile as a substitute amendment, which contains numerous visa pork provisions to buy off senators, as early as 5:30 pm on Monday. I’m sure they will be able to read and digest 1,190-pages of the most complex laws in just three days.
Folks, there is zero leadership in the Senate. Mitch McConnell, after inspiring Rubio to join the Gang so his K Street bundlers can get their slave labor, has gone into the witness protection program. When forced to utter three words about the most consequential bill to come before the Senate in years, McConnell says he’s “undecided.” I’m sure he’ll vote against it in the end after he is assured that enough of his minions will fall on their swords to get this passed without his official support. But the vacuum of leadership has ostensibly allowed Schumer to run a large portion of the GOP Conference.
It’s time we answer the question: where is Mitch McConnell? It’s time he either publicly declare his support for Schumer and Obama’s registration drive, lead the fight against the bill, or step down as GOP leader. There’s no lukewarm hell. If he wants Republican voters in Kentucky to reelect him next year, then he should demonstrate some leadership. What he is doing now is the antithesis of leadership. He has not given one floor speech on this and has not even feigned outrage over one of the hundred or so egregious provisions of the bill. He supports the bill.
At the beginning of this process, Senator Rubio promised Rush that this would never happen:
“The next step in this process is to craft a starting point of legislation, and then after that it’s gonna have to go through committees and people are gonna have their input. There’s gonna be public hearings. I don’t want to be part of a process that comes up with some bill in secret and brings it to the floor and gives people a take it or leave it.”
Well, as a cosponsor of this new substitute amendment, Rubio was an integral part of a process that drafted a second bill in secret with Schumer and Obama and is now being thrown on the floor as a take it or leave it proposal.
Monday is just the opening salvo in this war. Those who vote for this travesty or help orchestrate it in the background will soon see the silent majority of Americans come out of the shadows to throw them out of office.
