SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 10/10/2012

PARDON ME WHILE I BEAT THIS DEAD HORSE

Hapless Nevada Republican congressional candidate Chris Edwards has actually produced a campaign video explaining why he refuses to promise the voters of his district, and the people of Nevada, that if elected (fat chance) he won’t raise our taxes.

In the video, Edwards says he’s not signing the Pledge because “96 percent of the community here doesn’t want me to sign it” and “85% of the most stalwart conservative Republicans do not want me to sign it either.”

Sorry, but I gotta call major league bull-$%&# on this one, Chris.

Show me the polling or survey data that shows that 96% of the district doesn’t want you to promise you won’t raise their taxes.

And using the primary results to come up with the 85% of “stalwart conservative Republicans” claim is about as asinine a proposition as I’ve ever heard.  How asinine?  Heck, I don’t think even dunce Assemblyman Mark SureWould ever came up with something that stupid.

Edwards went on to characterize the 25-year-old Taxpayer Protection Pledge as a “cheap political gimmick.”

A “cheap political gimmick” embraced by Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, Dean Heller, Joe Heck, Mark Amodei, Danny Tarkanian, Brian Krolicki and Michael Roberson.

Other conservative Republicans who have embraced this “cheap political gimmick” include:Marco Rubio, Allen West, John McCain, Mitch McConnell, Ron Paul, Rand Paul, Michele Bachmann, Jim DeMint, Lamar Alexander, John Cornyn, Orrin Hatch, Mia Love (see Famous Last Words below), Eric Cantor and George Allen.

Indeed, for the full list of 558 incumbent and challenger candidates (not including governors) who have embraced this “cheap political gimmick,” click here

But, hey, Chris Edwards is a lot smarter than all those dummies, isn’t he?

EXPLODING ANOTHER LAME CHRIS EDWARDS EXCUSE

I’d almost forgotten this.  A couple weeks ago, a Silver State Confidential subscriber andChris Edwards supporter wrote me the following:

“Chris is going to co-sponsor HR 25 the Fair Tax Act and he fears that you are going to bust him for signing no new taxes when the fair tax act will indeed introduce a new tax system that eliminates the 16th amendment.”

Here’s the thing: Edwards, in this regard, is another Mark SureWould – totally ignorant of the subject matter at hand.  He’s talked to everybody on the planet about the Tax PledgeEXCEPT for the two guys who know the most about it…me and the Father of the Pledge,Grover Norquist.

Because if he HAD talked to either Grover or me, he’d know that sponsoring the Fair Tax Act would NOT be a violation of the Tax Pledge because the bill is REVENUE NEUTRAL.  There is nothing in the Tax Pledge to prevent true tax reform that doesn’t increase the net tax burden on Americans.

Now get this: Unlike Mr. Edwards, I did my homework.  And here’s what I found…

There are currently 70 co-sponsors of HR 25.

68 of them have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

And one of the other two is the only Democrat listed as a Fair Tax co-sponsor, David Borenof Oklahoma.

So much for trying to hide behind HR 25.

Chris, if you don’t want to sign the Tax Pledge, fine.  You have no chance of being elected anyway. But the least you owe your supporters is a credible reason and legitimate explanation for your decision.  Thus far, you haven’t given one. Why?  Because there isn’t one.

THE HORSFORD FILES

Here’s a shocker (not): The liberal fringe group MoveOn.org has endorsed liberal Democrat congressional candidate Steven Horsford

Upon learning of the endorsement, Horsford - not exactly a Rhoads scholar - is rumored to have exclaimed, “Zowee, that’s the bee’s knees! Yum-yum.”

In another shocking development (not), President Barack Obama endorsed Horsford on Wednesday, saying the race-baiting state senator was a "tireless and outspoken advocate for Nevada's middle class families."  Who saw that one coming???

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

"As for myself, I signed the Tax Pledge for the very simple reason that I firmly believe the federal government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.  As our national economy continues to struggle, we do not need further tax increases." – Saratoga Spring, Utah, mayor and Republican congressional candidate Mia Love
