SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 09/30/2012

JOHNNY O: IT’S ALL ABOUT…HIM

As if going after Democrat empty suit congressional candidate Steve Horsford wasn’t enough, former university chancellor Jim Rogers is now singeing the tail feathers of Democrat empty suit congressional candidate John Oceguera.  Here’s Sunday’s tweet from Mr.  Rogers:

“John Oceguera is one Democrat, and there are very few, that will not get my vote. Even if Joe Heck were far less qualified than he is, Oceguera would still not get my vote.

“As you may know, Oceguera graduated from the UNLV Boyd School of Law. I asked him why he continued to be a fireman when he had a professional degree. His answer was simple. The pay of a fireman is greater than the pay of a lawyer.

“Something is wrong with this picture and Oceguera has always known it. While being in the leadership of the fire departments and knowing the outrageous pay of fireman he did nothing to stop it. That leads me to believe that Oceguera will always put his own interests before those of Nevada.

“Don’t vote for him.”

Sounds like pretty good advice.

LESLIE v. BROWER

Republican state Sen. Greg Brower debated his Democrat opponent, Sheila Leslie, on Face to Face Friday night.

Leslie’s a socialist who came off as almost reasonable.  Somebody call the Academy Awards.

Brower has tried to pass himself off as a conservative, but revealed himself on the tax and budget issues to be every bit the Raggio-like moderate folks have always been afraid of.  He ducked, weaved and spun his flip-flops and inconsistencies with the grace of Fred Astaire

Somebody call Dancing with the Stars.

RAISING CAIN AND CAUSING PAYNE!

“The Hermanator” himself – our good friend Herman Cain – is returning to Las Vegas next Thursday, October 4, along with Fox Business analyst Charles Payne for a private, exclusive luncheon at the Ravella (formerly the Ritz Carlton) at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson.

The luncheon is being co-sponsored by the CEO-CFO Group, Citizen Outreach and Job Creators Solutions.  There will be a networking hour beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at high noon.  $100 per person EARLY BIRD if you register before September 29.  $150 at the door.  Click here

GREEN ENERGY HAS RATE PAYERS SEEING RED

The Left’s obsession with “green” energy – wind, solar, geothermal - has resulted in Nevada legislation requiring NV Energy to use a specified amount of energy – what’s called the “renewable portfolio standard” in bureaucratese - from green energy producers no matter how much more expensive it is or how much more it costs you and me every month.

And since Nevada’s renewable options aren’t yet as abundant as needed to comply with the government mandate, NV Energy has been reportedly purchasing renewable energy from out-of-state sources to meet the government-imposed requirements.

This has some on the Left, particularly Sen. Harry Reid, perturbed.

Now they want to force NV Energy to not only use a specified level of green energy, no matter how much more expensive it is or how much it raises our electric bills every month, but to force the company to use energy only from Nevada-generated sources - no matter how much more it costs you and me.

You’ve heard of dumb and dumber?  This is stupid and stupider.

As we’ve all heard over and over and over again, Nevada needs to “diversify” its economy so that we don’t rely so heavily on tourism and gaming.  Fine.  And while we’re not there yet, renewable energy holds out the potential for Nevada to eventually, one day, sometime in the future, possibly becoming a green energy EXPORTER.

Now think about this…

The way to get other states to someday maybe purchase green energy from Nevada is to tell NV Energy that it can’t buy green energy from companies in other states today?

Morons.

And you and I will continue to pay higher energy costs because of this enviro-imbecility.

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

* Anyone watching the now-infamous “47 percent” video knows Mitt Romney was talking about that 47 percent as it related to his CAMPAIGN strategy, not how he would treat them if elected president.  Which is why it’s so frustrating to see fellow Nevada Republicans like Gov. Brian Sandoval and Sen. Dean Heller take the liberal media bait and distance themselves from the GOP nominee by throwing him under the bus.

With friends like these…

* To combat crime in the most dangerous city in America – Camden, New Jersey – city officials are “planning to disband the Police Department.”

What?  That’s right.  “The reason, officials say, is that generous union contracts have made it financially impossible to keep enough officers on the street.”  And shutting down its current unionized police force of 273 officers “will free up millions to hire a larger, nonunionized force of 400 officers to safeguard the city,” reports the New York Times.  (Hat tip: Dan Burdish)

George Olsen, a neighbor of a world-class hoarder, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the situation is “horrendous.”  “This is like a junkyard,” he said.  “It smells putrid.  We go for walks, and it’s terrible. … Why isn’t the HOA doing anything?  It affects home prices, and it puts a black mark on the community.”

Democrat congressional candidate Steve Horsford immediately issued an outraged statement accusing Mr. Olsen of race-baiting.
