During a time of wide-spread famine in the 1930's-era Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin was attending a lavish state dinner when a reporter asked if the leaders of the Communist Party
would subject themselves to any austerity measures themselves, as other citizens were being asked to.Stalin allegedly belched, wiped his mouth, and said:
"All shortages will be divided equally-- among the peasants"
