A Pakistani jihadist, who operated an immigration business in Chicago, was convicted Thursday in federal court of participating in a conspiracy involving a terrorism plot against a Danish newspaper and providing material support to a terrorist organization based in Pakistan.
The radical Islamist, Tahawwur Hussain Rana, was found guilty by a federal jury that deliberated two days following a trial that began May 16, 2011, in U.S. District Court.
However, the jury acquitted Rana of the most serious charge, conspiracy to provide material support to the November 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India, that killed more than 160 people, including six Americans.
