WILL EGYPT''S PRESIDENT BE ANTI-ISRAEL OR ANTI-ISRAEL?

With Egypt's September elections not far off, its people are wondering who their next President will be?  Will he be the Arab world's version of George Washington or will he be an Egyptian version of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini?   The latter man who was known for saying things, "Those who are trying to bring corruption and destruction to our country in the name of democracy will be oppressed."  A brief analysis of who have actually declared they are opting for the throne of Pharaoh will answer the question.

There are only two men who have made public that they will be running for President of Egypt.  Those men are Mohamed ElBaradei ,the former Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Amr Moussa, who will shortly be stepping down as the Secretary General of the Arab League.
The mainstream media has tried to paint these figures as heroes and peacekeepers.  And unless you are seeing things through Khomeini’s "Israel must be wiped off the map" lens, you will come to find that they are anything but heroes.

For instance, in an interview that Amr Moussa had with The Washington Post, he said, "The view that Hamas is a terrorist organization is a view that pertains to a minority of countries, not a majority. Being a terrorist is not a stigma forever."

One highlight in the Hamas Charter reads: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." - Imam Hassan al-Banna

The interesting thing about the parallel between this quote in the Hamas Charter and Amr Moussa is that the man who said it was the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood.   Amr Moussa has recently given his support to their forming a political party in Egypt as the Muslim Brotherhood's English Website reports:  “...he was not perturbed by the rise of the Brotherhood, which he predicted to win the largest bloc of seats in parliament although not a majority. He stated that it was only natural the MB open its new headquarter following the January 25 Revolution adding that the MB with its history has just as much right as any other political party to participate and be part of the political arena.”

Just so we are clear, the Department of Defense has Hamas listed as a terrorist organization.  Our President has pledged a billion dollars in foreign aid to Egypt and yesterday at AIPAC, he said his commitment to Israel remains "ironclad."

Mohamed ElBaradei  is the other man in the running.  Who at first, seems like a guy the West could support, but then you take a look into his inconsistent track record.  In 2009, he said

“Iran is not going to produce a nuclear weapon any time soon and the threat posed by its atomic program has been exaggerated.” - Reuters

"Israel is number one threat to Middle East with its nuclear arms” - News.xinhuanet
“It’s safe to say that Israel is no threat, yes they have nukes and enemies on all sides.  But not once have they brought back a Hiroshima or Nagasaki moment.”

And in 2011, ElBaradei clarified his position on the Camp David Accords with an interview he had with Business Insider by saying, “At the moment, they have a peace treaty with Mubarak, but not one with the Egyptian people."

It seems whoever becomes the next ruler of the "Land Of The Pyramids," he will have nothing in common with George Washington, but will have much in common with Ruhollah Khomeini.
